Web Designer Intern

Company Description

The Center for Rural Empowerment and Agricultural Transformation for Sustainability, also called Creats International, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working in Kenya to dismantle cultural, social, and economic barriers holding rural communities from thriving. We achieve this by facilitating access to critical agricultural inputs such as quality seeds, organic fertilizer, and extension services. We also support women and youth entrepreneurs engaged in green economy initiatives, including agroforestry, tree nursery projects, and other environmentally conscious endeavors.

Role Description

This is a volunteer remote role for a Web Designer. The Web Designer will be responsible for designing and creating web graphics, front-end development, and implementing responsive web design principles. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Designing and restructuring the organization’s website with current stories, events, news, and any related information critical to the organization’s operations.
  • Conduct thorough testing of the website on various platforms (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, iOS) to ensure optimal performance.
  • Utilize technical skills to measure and analyze website traffic through tools like Google Analytics.
  • Design and optimize the organization’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to increase website visibility.
  • Research current and emerging website design and management trends and advise the senior management on the best technology.
  • Design organizational databases and information management systems to ensure data safety.
  • Diagnose network issues encountered by stakeholders and staff and recommend appropriate action.
  • Contribute to making the Organization’s information, communication, data policy, and strategic plan.
  • Assess the organization’s ICT needs and recommend the most appropriate software, hardware, and other IT requirements.
  • Any other relevant responsibility as advised by the team and management.

Qualifications

  • Web Design and Graphic Design skills
  • Experience in creating graphics
  • Front-End Development skills
  • Knowledge of responsive web design principles
  • Ability to work independently and remotely
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in the nonprofit sector or community-based organizations is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in web design, Graphic Design, Computer Science, or a related field

Time Commitment

A minimum of ten hours per week.
