Job Title: Waiter/Waitress
Department: School of Tourism and Hospitality (STH)
Reporting to: Restaurant Supervisor
Basic job summary:
The Job holder will be responsible for assisting the Restaurant Supervisor in delivering an
exceptional Food and Beverage Service experience to university guests, students and staff
members in a manner that is prompt, courteous, and efficient.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Serve food and beverages to guests as per duty Rota, ensuring first class service to all
customers.
2. Ensure cleanliness and orderliness in the food service area at all times to maintain high
standards of food hygiene as per the stipulated standards.
3. Refill serving stations or dining areas with food and supplies such as beverages, food,
cutlery, napkins and linens when necessary.
4. Provide customers with general information or assistance on the menus upon request
5. Co – ordinate with the chefs and cashiers to ensure smooth operation and guest
satisfaction
6. Clean tables and counters after guests have finished dining.
7. Adhere to grooming and appearance standards consistently
8. Arranging and setting up tables for special request functions, ensuring that all events are
set by the guidance of functions checklist.
9. Handle special requests and dietary requirements, communicating them effectively to the
kitchen staff where applicable.
10. Work closely with kitchen staff, baristas, and other waiters to ensure smooth operation
and guest satisfaction.
11. The post holder will carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose
of the job as requested by the Head of Department.
Minimum Academic Qualifications:
– Diploma in Food Production, Food and Beverage, or any other related field from a
recognized institution
Experience:
– At least 2 years relevant work experience in a busy environment
Competencies and Attributes:
– Strong analytical skills
– Attention to details
– Excellent communication skills
– Good understanding of MS Suite
