Temporary Project Accountant

Unit: East & Southern Africa
Reports To: Country Director – Uganda
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda

Purpose of the Role:

The project accountant will ensure that all financial aspects of the grants are handled with transparency and accountability, and in accordance with AGRA’s guidelines. He/she will also provide expert financial management and accounting services for the in-kind grants provided by AGRA.

Responsibilities:

Scope of Work

  • Collaborate in the logistical planning of training sessions, including venue setup, participant coordination, and ensuring the availability of necessary materials.
  • Develop and implement financial management systems and procedures for the grants in collaboration with AGRA, NPA, and MAAIF
  • Monitor and report on the grants’ financial performance and progress.
  • Ensure compliance with the financial requirements of the NPA, MAAIF, and AGRA.
  • Provide financial analysis and advice to support decision-making
  • Facilitate the procurement of goods and services in line with the grants’ objectives.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure alignment of the grant with the Ministry’s goals.
  • Prepare in kind grant financial expenditure monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and upload them on online AGRA Management Information System (AMIS).
  • Provide technical support to AGRA grantees in Uganda on financial management.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts associated with the grant activities

  • Excellent leadership skills to effectively lead, manage, and grow the Finance function.

  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to perform multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality of deliverables.

  • Must have outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player with a high emotional intelligence quotient

Qualifications

A minimum of a BA degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.

At least 2 years of professional experience in financial management, preferably in the agricultural sector, International NGO, or public sector.

Proven track record of managing in-kind grants and donor-funded projects.

Strong understanding of Ugandan financial regulations and international accounting standards.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
