General Summary

 

IDI received a five-year (Oct 2021 – Oct 2026) transition award entitled USAID Local Partner Health Services-TB Activity. The purpose of the award is to increase TB case detection and treatment success in Uganda to 90% of all cases and thus contribute to the reduction of Uganda’s TB burden by 2026. IDI works through technical assistance to the Ministry of Health’s National TB & Leprosy Program (NTLP), the three urban districts of Kampala, Mukono, Wakiso,  all districts in the Karamoja Region, and Regional Referral Hospitals to increase the availability, accessibility, and utilization of integrated TB, TB/HIV and MDR-TB services.

The Statistician shall primarily be responsible for compiling and analyzing programmatic data generated in the focus districts of the USAID LPHS TB Activity. He will also support the NTLP staff to analyze data generated through NTLP programmatic activities and operations research. He/she must be a diverse individual, showing broad technical, organizational, and communication skills and be capable of working individually and in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

 

1. Advise and assist the research team on study design, sample size, data collection tools, and data analysis approaches during protocol development.

2. Perform data management activities for research studies carried out under the USAID LPHS  TB Activity and at the NTLP including but not limited to

a) development of data management plans

b) development of electronic research databases on tools

c) periodic data QA/QC of research databases.

3. Perform appropriate statistical analyses activities for research studies carried out under the  USAID LPHS TB Activity and at the NTLP including but not limited to

a) development of statistical analysis plans

b) carrying out statistical analyses and interpreting the results under guidance from a senior statistician.

c) contributing to the methods and analysis sections of manuscripts drafted by the USAID LPHS TB Activity staff and the NTLP staff

c) presentation of results for operations and interpretation of results for operations research studies carried out under the USAID LPHS TB Activity and at the NTLP

4. Plan, organize and conduct trainings in data management and basic statistical analysis skills and methodologies, and basic data analysis to USAID LPHS TB Activity staff and NTLP staff.

5. Collaborate with the Health Informatics Analyst to review research database file structure; develop, program, manage, and maintain complex statistical databases; perform or supervise data entry.

6. Advise on software needs for data management, data analysis and data visualization as per project needs.

7. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

 

Academic Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Statistics,Biostatistics,Epidemiology

Person Specification

 

  • Must hold a Master Degree in Statistics,Biostatistics,Epidemiology
  • Experience of 5 -10 years in application of advanced statistical analysis on clinical data in a research and/or programmatic setting.
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis techniques will be an added advantage.
