
A challenging opportunity has become available for a self-motivated, driven, and innovative individual to join Grindrod Logistics Africa Uganda Ltd at their Kampala offices.
The successful candidate will report to the Uganda General Manager and to the Group SHEQ Manager.
The role and the responsibilities of the successful applicant will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain and develop effective overall Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality systems for operational, engineering, construction, logistics and administrative activities in the area of responsibility including:
- Offices and administration environments.
- Site / yard related equipment and processes.
- Logistics requirements relating to truck and marine activities (Roll on roll off Vessel, carrying loaded trucks on Lake Victoria)
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety, health, environmental, and quality regulations and standards.
- Establish and maintain effective communication channels to promote SHEQ, Risk and ISO awareness.
- Execute and maintain Environment, Health, and Safety plans according to legal guidelines.
- Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop risk management strategies – HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment) and AIA (Aspect Impact Assessment).
- Ensure all sites comply to legislation and have all required licenses based on listed activity and application (e.g., EA: Environmental Authorisation, AEL: Atmospheric Emissions License), Trade permits. Ensuring that sites adhere to conditions stipulated under these licenses and permits.
- Ensure all Environmental, Health and Safety Policies are adopted.
- Prepare and communicate Environmental, Health and Safety policies.
- Recommend solutions to Health and Safety issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
- Conduct internal audits to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.
- Coordinate external audits and certifications by accredited bodies.
- Resolves SHEQ issues when they occur and keep management fully advised of all relevant SHEQ matters.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and non-conformities, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor and analyse SHEQ performance indicators to drive continuous improvement.
- Develop and maintain documentation, including policies, procedures, and records.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure SHEQ and ISO integration into all business processes.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry best practices related to SHEQ and ISO management.
- Facilitate management reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of the SHEQ and ISO management systems.
- Engage with stakeholders, such as clients, suppliers, and regulatory authorities, to address SHEQ and ISO requirements.
- Drive a culture of accountability, responsibility, and continuous improvement in SHEQ and ISO practices

Qualifications
- Safety Management Degree / Diploma / Qualification
- SAMTRAC / similar
- ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 Implementation
- ISO Auditor
Experience
- At least 3 years similar and or related industry in SHEQ position
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Data analysis and statistical aptitude
- Highly conscientious and diligent
- Project Management Skills
- Good Understanding and interpretation of Occupational Health & Safety Act, Regulation, and local Municipal by-laws, NEMA and all environmental legislation.
- Understanding of ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015 & 45001:2018 standards
- Proficient in MS Office
- Assertiveness
- Attention to detail.
