We have been working in Kenya since 2005 and we operate an Early Childhood Development School Feeding Programme across 689 Early Childhood centres in Turkana County.
About The Role
Mary’s Meals Kenya (MMK) is recruiting for a Services Officer (Finance & Procurement).
Reporting to the Finance Manager, our Services Officer will provide administrative support to the finance and procurement functions of Mary’s Meals Kenya. This will include systematic documentation and reporting in the functions of the services department, in accordance with set policies and procedures.
This role offers a fantastic opportunity to work across a broad remit encompassing finance & procurement, providing efficient and accurate services to internal teams and developing strong working relationships with external suppliers and vendors.
This role will be based in Lodwar, Turkana County in Kenya.
Key responsibilities:
- Preparation of payment requests, prior to authorization by the relevant officers
- Act as the organization’s petty cash custodian
- Work closely with the Finance Manager to ensure all reconciliations are performed and posted on a timely basis
- Ensure that all financial transactions are updated daily into the accounting system and month end processes are completed on time
- Support the Finance Manager in preparing the monthly financial reports, audits and year end processes
- Support the Procurement Manager in ensuring all procurement is transparent and follows approved policies and procedures for MMK
- Maintain records of purchases, pricing, and other important data
- Seek out new and reliable suppliers
- Work across MMK to ensure procurement activities are carried out in accordance with requests made
- Assist the Procurement Manager in updating and implementing the procurement plan, and any internal audit management actions
- Create and maintain good relationships with vendors/suppliers and being proactive in supporting to resolve issues that arise
- Support the Procurement Manager in drafting tender documents and assist in the tender process where required
Required skills and experience:
- Minimum of 3 years practical experience or equivalent, in accounting, with knowledge of financial systems, transaction reporting, reconciliations, and payables management
- Proven experience of procurement, with solid knowledge and understanding of procurement processes, and supplier management
- Attention to detail, good organisational skills and excellent at documentation
- Experience of using Sage & QuickBooks
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or any relevant/equivalent business-related field
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of professionals
- Must be a Kenyan citizen with a current Certificate of Police clearance
