Senior Mining Engineer

Geofields Tanzania Limited (GTL) is Tanzania’s leading exploration and mining service company, specializing in drilling services, ground exploration survey works, mining equipment supply, and mining ventures. Established in 2008, Geofields is in a joint venture with African Underground Mining Services (AUMS) and operates primarily in underground mining at Geita Gold Mine (GGM) in Tanzania. Position: Senior Mining Engineer
Location: Geita Gold Mine or other relevant projects

Position Purpose:
The Senior Mining Engineer will assist with technical mining issues, both on-site and off-site, by interpreting and analyzing mining physicals, site costs, and integrating with the client’s technical services department. This role also involves the management of mining operations, including project coordination, scheduling, and cost management.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Mining Operations Management:
    • Oversee the daily mining operations to ensure smooth and efficient processes.
    • Manage site-based operations, ensuring that mining physicals are achieved as per contract schedules.
    • Maintain and manage mining contracts and associated costs.
    • Supervise and manage mining teams to achieve operational targets.
    • Monitor production and provide monthly performance reports to the client.
    • Prepare monthly mining progress claims and ensure timely submission to the client.
  2. Technical Services and Reporting:
    • Analyze mining physicals and site costs.
    • Design and implement reporting templates for mining activities using MinRep, Deswick, and Surpac.
    • Ensure compliance with mine reporting systems and standards.
    • Act as the primary liaison between the client and site management.
  3. Safety, Compliance, and Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure compliance with all HS&E policies, procedures, and instructions.
    • Perform pre-start checks and risk assessments.
    • Comply with Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations.
    • Maintain safety devices and equipment, and report hazards immediately.
    • Implement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining production and quality standards.
  4. Team Development and Training:
    • Train and mentor graduate and vocational engineers.
    • Assess mining working conditions and recommend improvements.
  5. Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Ensure client requirements are met contractually and foster a positive relationship with the client.
    • Ensure compliance with site contract variations and management plans.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ site-based experience in a mining environment, with knowledge in both open pit and underground mine projects.
  • Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of MinRep, Deswick, and Surpac software.
    • Strong background in designing and optimizing mining operations, including open pit/underground mine projects.
    • Ability to work independently and apply established standards.
    • Excellent communication and liaison skills with both site employees and clients.
    • Experience in managing mining costs and preparing monthly mining progress claims.
  • Safety Commitment: A demonstrated passion for safety and proactive management of safety risks.
  • Licensing: Must have a valid Tanzania Driver’s License.
  • Membership: Membership in a relevant professional body is preferred.
