SENIOR MINE ACCOUNTANT

Matongo Gold Mine is seeking to recruit Senior Mine Accountant (Cost Chartered) to join and grow our finance team. Primary focus is to support the commercial stewardship of the operation through providing timely and insightful reporting and analysis to key stakeholders, including the Senior Leadership Team

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • To be responsible for supervising all activities of the accounting department.
    • Create financial reports, including monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts
    • To prepare and remit all statutory returns.
    • To maintain high levels of accounting standards at all times.
    • Ensure that all expenditures are within the approved budget.
    • Design, implement and monitor financial internal controls.
    • Coordination of month end processing and management reporting of operational results and capital expenditure.
    • Preparation and analysis of life of mine plans, budgets and forecasts.
    • Assisting cost owners in cost control through preparing cost performance reports and undertaking variance analysis.
    • Undertaking capital project evaluations.
    • Providing accounting support to personnel throughout the operation.
    • Mentoring less experienced finance team members.
    • Prepare reports in agreed timeframe, including monthly reports & cost review meetings.
    • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of cost performance reports to the management team on a monthly basis and expenditure forecasts.
    • Contribute to the development of budgets, cost models and Capital Expenditure plans.
    • Identify significant variances from budgeted costs & escalate issues and solutions to appropriate persons.
    • Manage accounting processes, including payments, invoicing, and payroll
    • Ensure compliance with tax deadlines and act as the main point of contact for tax advisors
  • Develop plans for the long-term financial goals of the organization
  • Coordinate the month-end accounting process, including journals and balance sheet reconciliations across all entities
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the General Manager.

Reporting to: Mine General Manager

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized and reputable academic institution in Accounting, Finance, Accounting and Finance, Business Administration in Accounting, or its equivalent.
  • Must be a holder of Associate/Fellow CPA(T)
  • Must be registered with the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA).
  • Four (4) years’ work experience in similar functions.
  • Must be a person of high levels of integrity.
  • Proven experience in a mining or similar project, cost & CAPEX focused environment.
  • Working experience under any ERP package is a must. Working knowledge on Tally is an added advantage.
