Senior Business Development Executive – Insurance

Background
Workpay is steadily and successfully integrating financial wellness to its core business, HR and payroll management. Operating under 4 pillars i.e., Transact, Borrow, Invest and Protect, the financial services department is in search of a dynamic and an all-star B2B technology Insurance sales professional, to manage our benefits arm, that falls under the ‘Protect’ pillar; He or She will ensure that our Workpay Insurance program, operates seamlessly to deliver on our increasingly ambitious Insurance revenue targets.
Role Overview
This role requires an understanding of the laws and regulations governing the Insurance Sector. It also requires a deep knowledge of Insurance services and products such as Motor, Life, Pension, Medical, Asset, WIBA etc.
You will report to and work extremely closely with the Senior Manager Financial Services and Chief Business Officer, who will also serve as a critical point of support. You may also work closely with our CEO, COO, Product team, and BD Managers in other regions (West and Southern Africa) to ensure rapid user growth and maintain product-market fit.

Job Purpose Summary:
Develop, create awareness and implement Workpay benefits business development plan, policies and procedures.
Propagate and nurture excellent relations with insurance intermediaries and other distribution channels, through constant contact in order to facilitate a steady inflow of business and cost-effective management of clients
Lead and oversee insurance processing and contractual including Medical, Motor, WIBA, Life, Pension, Asset etc.
Lead in the annual review process of various insurance policies and make recommendations on renewal proposal
Facilitate timely preparation of new business quotations as requested by direct clients, and closely follow up to convert them into business.
Business Intelligence: Be the eyes and ears in the market and constantly be in touch with updates in the insurance industry. Consistently monitor and provide Insurance market intelligence and identify potential for both business acquisition and strategic planning
Conceptualize new initiatives for increasing sales and top-of-mind recall amongst potential clients
Identify marketing opportunities by studying client’s requirements; defining market, competitor’s share, and competitor’s strengths and weaknesses; forecasting projected business; establishing targeted market share.
Creating a database of prospective clients. Maintaining constant touch with them by identifying key stakeholders and decision-makers
Sustain rapport with key accounts by making periodic visits; exploring specific needs; anticipate new opportunities.
Update knowledge by participating in programs on Insurance; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations; attending training programs.
Train, motivate and retain business development executives and strategic alliances for business growth with intermediaries and industry stakeholders.
Act as the company contact and subject matter expert on matters benefits, answer questions regarding benefit eligibility, limits of coverage and claims procedures for employees, supervisors, and service providers/vendors
You will be a highly organized individual, who is able to keep a track of multiple clients and policies
Required Qualities And Qualifications
- Minimum experience of 3 years within the Insurance sector
- Bachelor’s degree in business or insurance-related course
- Professional Insurance certification such as COP is an added advantage
- Experience in Employee Benefits is an added advantage
- Proven track record of achieving and exceeding set targets
- Self-motivated, self-directed, mature, ambitious, intelligent, articulate and knowledgeable
- Proven ability to do consultative and concept selling
- Ability to study and analyze an insurance contract and summarize its coverage
- Ability to analyze client’s needs and risk profiles and compare insurance policies from different providers to find the best coverage at the most competitive price
- High sense of ethics by recommending products and services that are in the best interest of the clients fostering long term commitments
