Orima & Co Advocates is Uganda’s premier banking law firm, representing ten commercial banks, private equity funds, development finance institutions, and government finance agencies in our Banking and Finance group. We are looking to hire an advocate to join this practice group.
Responsibilities
- Advising on and drafting transaction documents, including loan agreements, mortgage deeds, debentures, and various other security documents;
- Manage the resolution of disputes related to securities perfection, including disputes related to the ownership or control of securities.
- Updating the supervisor on the current trends in the banking and finance sector.
- Preparing daily, weekly, and monthly reports;
- Leading training;
- Mentor and supervise junior lawyers, fostering a learning and professional development culture.
- Engage frequently with clients, maintaining a high level of direct contact. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong client relationships.
- Actively contribute to the team’s business development strategy.
- Collaborate with other practice areas within the firm, particularly our corporate and real estate teams.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and market developments, and provide thought leadership within the firm.
- Contribute to business development initiatives, including client pitches, seminars, and networking events.
Experience and Knowledge
- An enrolled advocate with at least five (5) practicing certificates.
- Candidates should possess substantial experience in transactional banking, demonstrating a keen interest and commitment to the field.
- Knowledge of banking and land law and a thorough understanding of the various legal and regulatory frameworks that govern the perfection of securities.
- Proficiency in legal drafting with exceptional attention to detail is required.
- A confident and professional manner is imperative.
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- Experience with working for our existing or target clients is an added advantage.
