SENIOR ACCOUNTANT (1 POSITION)
Overall Responsibility
The Senior Accountant will head the company’s finance department and be directly responsible for managing all finance and accounting activates of the company. He will provide both strategic and operational support across the business, and will provide input on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to financial management, forecasting needs. He will ensure the integrity of accounting information and by researching accounts issues for compliance and establishing quality control over financial transactions and reporting.
Key Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
- Financial Budget: Providing data required for budgetary planning, assisting senior management in the preparation of the budget and budget management. Automate the budgetary preparation process.
- Financial Transactions: Coordinating and controlling all accounting functions, ensuring all expenses are fully and properly accounted for, in accordance with company procedures /guidelines ,safekeeping of cheque books and ensuring established signing authorities are complied with, ensuring confidentiality in all financial transactions.
- Accounting aspects of transactions:
Providing operating divisions with suitable guidelines on rising of accounting documents, facilitating expeditious payments of company and fund obligations.
Ensuring Unit Trust Fund transactions are properly recorded and ensuring that all control accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis. - Audit Requirements: Ensuring that the company books are ready for audit within the set timelines. Providing the necessary information for internal and external audits and conducting financial investigations as necessary.
- Financial reports and returns: Producing monthly and quarterly management accounts in accordance with the calendar of events for the department.
- Also ensuring that the subsidiary ledgers are reconciled to the general ledger on a monthly basis and that the Audit schedules are updated on a monthly basis; preparing statutory returns and ensuring they are filed on time.
- Salaries and wages: Ensuring that records relating to staff deductions are properly maintained and quarterly statements are maintained and produced ensuring that statutory deductions are paid on due dates.
- Accounting and Financial systems and controls: On a regular basis reviewing both the computerized and manual systems to ensure they are efficient, identifying areas that need to be computerized or enhanced to improve overall efficiency and remove duplication of roles and transactions.
- Staff Duties: Set up a finance team for the Company and study job description of each member of staff in your section to ensure that their productivity is commensurate with their position, propose enhancements to their jobs and ensure that each one of them is properly utilized.
- Tax matters and other returns: Ensuring accurate computation of the corporation tax and ensuring that the same is paid and
the necessary returns made as stipulated by law.
- Ensuring that all the returns made to the Capital Markets Authority are made at the appropriate time.
- Accounting: Directly supervising the accounts assistant to ensure that accounting transactions are collectively captured and maintained, produce monthly quarter and annual accounts and variance analysis, produce the annual accounts and variance analysis, and produce the annual budgets and regularly advice management of any changes that may be required on systems and procedures.
- Fixed assets register: Ensure that a fixed assets register is maintained and that all assets are readily identifiable through a unique number for each asset.

Professional/academic Qualification
- CPA (U)
- АССА
- Computer literacy
- Bachelor of Commerce degree (accounting) or other related field
Experience
- 3-5 years working experience in a similar position. Audit experience will be an added advantage
- A good understanding of IFRS
Critical skills
- Computer literacy, especially Ms Excel and Access; familiarity with accounting software a definite advantage.
- Ability to deal effectively with internal and statutory auditors.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
- Strong work ethics and commitment to personal and corporate integrity.
- A strong team player; organised and creative in work improvement processes.
- Interest in and ability to streamline accounting process systems (manual and automated) to achieve added efficiency and robustness.
- Solid interpersonal skills with strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels and functions.
- Excellent planning and organising skills including multi-tasking under pressure.
