The Research & Reporting Consultant will play a critical role in supporting research, reporting, and information management related to rapid stabilization efforts in Somalia, specifically focused on recovery operations and the drawdown of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS). The consultant will synthesize research products, manage and articulate information received from field reports, and draft the context sections of key reports, ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic objectives.
This position requires a deep understanding of the Somalia context, stabilization analytics, and a capacity to communicate findings to a broader audience, including high-level stakeholders. The consultant will work closely with partners such as KasmoDev and the Community-Based Liaison Officers (CBLOs) under the ERI project to channel insights into actionable recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:
The Consultant will be expected to deliver the following products and engage in the associated processes:
Research and Analysis:
- Oversee and synthesize all research activities related to rapid stabilization in Somalia.
- Review and synthesize data and reports received from KasmoDev and CBLOs to produce cohesive analysis aligned with strategic objectives.
- Track and analyze recovery operations and ATMIS drawdown efforts, highlighting key challenges and opportunities.
Reporting:
- Draft the context sections of regular reports, such as the weekly report to the US Government (USG) and other internal or external stakeholders.
- Produce high-quality reports communicating findings and trends to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ensure all reporting is framed within the organization’s broader stabilization strategy and objectives.
Information Management:
- Manage incoming data and reports to ensure accurate and timely information flow between teams and partners.
- Organize data to support easy access and retrieval for analysis and reporting.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Coordinate closely with the ERI project, KasmoDev, and CBLOs to ensure smooth communication and collaboration.
- Liaise with high-level stakeholders to present findings and updates on stabilization efforts, recovery operations, and the ATMIS drawdown.
- Channel stabilization analytics into the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation (MOIFAR) dashboard to enhance the visibility of ongoing stabilization efforts.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Advanced degree in Political Science, International Relations, Conflict Studies, Development Studies, or a related field from an accredited university.
- Experience: Minimum 7-10 years of hands-on experience in research, analysis, and reporting within conflict or post-conflict settings, with a strong focus on stabilization and recovery operations.
- Proven experience conducting primary research, including designing methodologies, data collection, and analysis in fragile or volatile environments.
- Demonstrated background in monitoring and evaluation (M&E), with the ability to assess program impact, especially within the scope of stabilization, peacebuilding, or recovery programs.
- Experience working with international organizations (UN, INGOs) or government entities in conflict zones, particularly within the context of Somalia or similar settings.
- Familiarity with stabilization analytics, conflict mapping, and synthesizing findings into actionable reports for a diverse audience.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong writing and communication skills to produce concise, clear, and impactful reports tailored to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including survey design, data visualization, and statistical analysis.
- Ability to multitask and manage deadlines effectively, especially under pressure in high-stress, politically sensitive environments.
- Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work in multicultural environments with respect for diversity in gender, religion, nationality, and age.
- High levels of integrity, discretion, and professionalism, with a strong commitment to ethical standards.
DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT:
The assignment is initially set for six (6) months, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and the selected candidate’s performance. The selected candidate is expected to work approximately 21 to 22 days per month.
COMPENSATION:
The salary for this position is commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
LOCATION:
The Research and Reporting Consultant will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, but may travel to Somalia as required by the project.
