Position: Research Assistants (Uganda) – 3 positions

Duty Location: Refugee settlements in Uganda
Period: 28 months from 1st October 2024 to 28th February 2027
Effort: Part-time (Days spread through the contract period)

Africa. We provide professional development programs, mentorship, and resources to empower
individuals and institutions in the region.
Job Summary:
HERS-EA is seeking Research Assistants to carry out research to develop an educational model,
with associated tools, that can be deployed in refugee and internally displaced communities in the
East Africa region. The model is expected to develop the recipients’ skills to overcome barriers in
their education and engage in gainful employment to improve their lives.
Roles and Responsibilities:
o Participate in development and validation of tools for the research activity.
o Participate in design and development of the research study activities and documents.
o Participate in field data collection activities as required by project schedules.
o Participate in field debrief sessions to and raise data collection issues or challenges to inform
next steps.
o Follow a strict code of ethics and ensure confidentiality information and informants at all
times.
o Adhere to guidelines for storage of both qualitative and quantitative data.
o Participate in project meetings, workshops as well as dissemination activities as required.
o Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Lead Researcher.
Qualifications and Skills
o Suitable candidates MUST be able to conduct field research using a variety of methods.o Bachelor’s training in humanitarian and or, education field or any other related fields.
Master’s degree is an added advantage
o At least two years’ experience in collecting research data using different data collection
techniques including literature review, in-depth interviews and key informant interviews
amongst others.
o Ability to work independently, multi-task and meet deadlines.
o Experience in programs for refugee settlements and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
communities is an added advantage.
Contract and Remuneration:
The selected Research Assistants will be offered an annual contract (subject to renewal during the
duration of the project), with remuneration per days worked. HERS-EA will cover project related
expenses such as travel and accommodation.
