About the position 
The Research Assistant II will organize and conduct field research trials in support of image acquisition for AI modeling and standard operating procedure (SOP) development. This position will be located in the Alliance office at Kawanda in Uganda.
Responsibilities
• Ensure timely land preparation for field trials at Kawanda and other project sites in Uganda.
• Coordinate the timely and accurate establishment of field trials at project sites, including Kawanda, ensuring adherence to project specifications.
• Manage and implement effective agronomic practices for field trials, including applying agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and crop protection products.
• Coordinate and actively participate in the collection of both image and traditional agronomic data, such as flower counts, pod counts, plant stand counts, and yield data, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Oversee the management and efficient use of project resources, including equipment and supplies. Ensure proper maintenance and care to optimize resources.
• Collaborate in developing and continuously improving standard operating procedures (SOPs) for image data collection

Requirements

• A diploma and/or BSc in agronomy, or related agricultural fields
• Demonstrated experience in managing agricultural research experiments
• Professional working proficiency in English
• Basic understanding of Microsoft Office and related software (e.g. Excel, Google Sheets, Word, Google Docs, etc).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and stakeholders in the agricultural and research fields.
• Great organizational skills, including time management, and the ability to multitask.
Terms of employment
 
This position is a nationally recruited position based in Kawanda, Uganda. The initial contract will be for one year subject to a probation period of 3 months and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
This position is graded at BG05 level on a scale of BG01 to BG14 (BG14 being the highest level according to the Alliance job classification framework policy).
