Established in 2018, SEMA is a not-for-profit enterprise called Stichting SEMA based in Uganda. SEMA empowers citizens to provide real-time feedback on their experiences with public services.

Job Summary

The Research and Data Assistant provides support to the Research and Data Manager in conducting research and data management activities. This role involves data entry, data cleaning, data analysis, and administrative tasks. The Research and Data Assistant will contribute to the overall data management process and ensure data quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Management:
    • Accurately enter citizen feedback data into SEMA’s database.
    • Conduct regular data cleaning and quality checks.
    • Assist in data verification and validation processes.
  • Data Analysis:
    • Support the Research and Data Manager in conducting basic data analysis.
    • Create data visualizations to communicate findings clearly.
    • Assist in generating reports on citizen feedback trends and patterns.
  • Field Support:
    • Provide logistical support for field data collection activities, including equipment management and data collection tool maintenance.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Assist in scheduling interviews, focus groups, and other research activities.
    • Maintain accurate records of research activities and documentation.
    • Provide general administrative support to the research team.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, social sciences, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in data entry and data management software (e.g., Excel, Google Sheets).
  • Basic data analysis skills (e.g., using Excel formulas).
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions:

The Research and Data Assistant will primarily work in an office environment, with occasional field visits to support data collection activities. The role involves working with large datasets and requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. This is a full-time job (40 hours/week), with occasional weekend activities (conferences, meetings.)

We offer a full-time contract for 12 months which may be renewed upon successful completion of targets. The probation period is 3 months. PAYE, NSSF and health insurance are covered, as well as 21 holidays and an annual training budget.

Remuneration is a combination of base salary and increments based on acquisition achievements. Please note we are a small, local social enterprise, and we offer salaries according to Ugandan local organization standards – we do not offer an international organization (UN) scale salary. We are looking for someone who is (willing to be) based in Kampala, Uganda.
