Research Analyst

POSITION: RESEARCH ANALYST

Reporting to the General Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for identifying, analyzing, monitoring market trends and building solid business relationships

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building an expertise in the assigned industries and companies so as develop content driven research reports
  • Modeling company financials, projecting cash flows so as to support the recommendations in the research reports
  • Performing relative value analysis within sectors and subsectors and developing specific return/price targets, as well as performing beta and industry correlation analysis.
  • Cultivating a variety of independent sources of information including other research providers
  • Building solid relationships with company managements with an eye towards gaining insight on their strategic, operational, and financial outlooks.
  • Using the acquired expertise and product knowledge to identify stocks the product’s portfolios should hold, then clearly and confidently communicating the investment theses to the clients
  • Develop research reports when required as relates to the business areas of the company
  • Manage the companys’ social media presence, ensuring the platforms are vibrant and active
  • Forging a strong working partnership with the trading team and fellow analysts
  • Staying abreast of external and internal developments that may influence stock performance
  • Analyzing past operations’ results and performing variance analyses.
  • Identifying and analyzing trends and forecasts and recommending improvements to the business processes.
  • Researching market trends, conducting surveys, analyzing data from competitors, and analyzing the business’s operations, expenditures, and customer retention to identify patterns of potential issues or improvements.
  • Using statistical, economic, and data modeling techniques and tools when doing research reports and analyzing data
  • Organizing and analyzing data, creating charts and graphs, and presenting your findings to the team.
  • Organizing and storing data for future research projects.

Minimum Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Key Competencies:

  • A University Degree in Business Finance, Economics or other related field
  • CFA level I and above will be an added advantage
  • 2 years of work experience with at least 1 year in equity research.
  • A passion for bottom-up fundamental analysis of stocks as well as identifying and analyzing industry trends that includes the willingness to go against the crowd
  • The intellectual and investment flexibility to identify appropriate investment ideas for long only and long/short products with different time horizons and styles.
  • A level of emotional and intellectual flexibility and maturity that is evidenced by the ability to set aside personal investment biases and any emotional attachment to a security, in favor of making wise investment recommendations and decisions
  • A great team member who understands “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”
  • A powerful work ethic, being a self-starter, capable of accepting responsibility and working independently
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills – the ability to ask questions, and articulate viewpoints both verbally and in print
