About the Role

We are looking  for a Project  Communications Specialist to support  strategic  communication efforts  across Axum’s  client-facing projects. This  role will ensure  that project-level communications are well-coordinated, strategically aligned,  and effectively documented, while contributing to impactful storytelling and content development.

The ideal  candidate is  a proactive  and  creative  storyteller  who thrives  in a  cross-functional, collaborative environment and is passionate about social impact  in Africa. You will work closely with the Communications Partner, External Communications and Content Strategist, Operations team,   senior   leadership,   and   Axum’s    project   teams    to   ensure    communications  drive engagement, visibility, and knowledge dissemination.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Project Communications & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Develop  and   execute   communication  plans   for  Axum’s   client   projects,  ensuring messaging is clear, strategic, and aligned with project objectives.
  • Serve as  a liaison  between  project  teams  and the communications function,  ensuring project insights  and outcomes are well-documented and effectively communicated.
  • Support  stakeholder  engagement   by  crafting   key  messages,  reports,   and   briefing materials tailored for funders, government partners, and other key audiences.
  • Assist in client-facing communication efforts,  such  as  presentation decks,  proposal materials, and project reports.
  • Coordinate project-specific knowledge-sharing initiatives,  such  as  webinars, learning sessions, or community updates.
  1. Content Strategy & Storytelling
  • Source impactful stories from Axum’s project teams to document and showcase Axum’s expertise, mission, and impact.
  • Collaborate with external communications to repackage these stories for publications, digital content, and external campaigns.
  • Support  thought  leadership  initiatives   by  helping  senior  leaders   develop   podcasts, insights, blogs, and key messaging materials.
  • Assist with the coordination and creation of newsletters for both internal  and external audiences.
  1. Coordination & Execution
  • Ensure seamless execution  of communication activities across  multiple  projects  by coordinating with project leads, clients, and Axum’s communications team.
  • Manage  timelines,    deliverables,    and    resource    allocation    for    project-specific communication outputs.
  • Support branding consistency across internal and external project communications.
  • Assist with communication tools and templates, including PowerPoint decks, proposal templates, and internal branding materials.

What We are Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing,  Public   Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in project communications, content  development, or corporate communications, preferably in the social impact, development, or consulting sectors.
  • Strong  ability   to  develop   and   execute   communication  plans   in   a   project-based environment.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and  storytelling  skills, with the ability  to craft  compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to liaise with project  teams  and  senior  management, ensuring  communication priorities are met.
  • Strong project management and coordination skills.
  • Proficiency in content creation  tools  (e.g.,  Canva, Microsoft  Office  Suite)  and  general social media management & analytics knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing client-facing materials (reports, presentations, proposals).
  • Familiarity  with  stakeholder  engagement   strategies  in  a  development  or  consulting context.
  • Ability to develop visual  storytelling  assets, such  as infographics or visual  reports,  and familiarity with podcast recording and editing tools.
  • Passionate about social impact  storytelling in Africa

This is a fixed term position with possibility of extension  and will be based in one of our offices  in either Dar es Salaam, Kigali or Nairobi and applicants should be eligible to work and live in either Tanzania, Rwanda or Kenya.
