Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Uganda is part of the LWF World Service and we are currently supporting Congolese and South-Sudanese refugees living in settlements in the districts of Kamwenge, Adjumani, Moyo, Kyangwali and Lamwo respectively.

 

Job Summary:   Under the guidance of the Project Officer, H/She will be directly responsible for undertaking the activities within the assigned sector in the project, and the delivery, distribution of project assistance, materials, and items according to the project description and budget provisions as detailed in the agreements, and as assigned by the Project Officer.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Project Officer to initiate and coordinate the planning of the sector’s activities in liaison with other sectors, and ensure optimum utilization of Project resources in conjunction with the protection coordinator at minimum cost.
  • Liaise and work in cooperation with the relevant local authorities, community leaders, and nongovernmental organizations, collaborating/implementing partners, and other stakeholders where appropriate to achieve the project objectives and facilitate project implementation.
  • Collect and tabulate field data regularly on project activities carried out and conduct other assessments using participatory approaches for all beneficiaries to determine the relevance and impacts of the project.
  • Regularly visit all the beneficiary sites where all project activities are undertaken, check on the progress, and offer support as directed by the Project Officer in line with the project objectives.
  • Conduct daily visual assessments of persons of concern (POC) and ensure a variety of structured Community-based protection interventions within the settlement, catering to the needs of POC of different ages, genders, and abilities.
  • Promote case management for Persons with Specific Needs (PSN), refer and follow up on reception services, coordinate, consult, and collaborate with other service providers.
  • Lead outreach activities and assist in organizing and implementing training and workshops.
  • Liaise with household members and other community leaders regularly to keep them informed of any developments or problems within the settlements and surrounding areas.
  • Supervise and support community participation in refugee settlements and at all the sub-county levels for the effective implementation and coordination of Community-based protection activities.
  • Promote active community participation in specified project activities by involving beneficiaries, intermediaries, and local leaders in the planning and implementation.
  • Train and mentor LWF community-based facilitators and community counsellors in organizational policies, and recreational and Community-based protection activities implemented within the refugee settlement and host community.
  • Assist the Project Officer in preparing periodical work plans, case follow-ups, and reports on Community-based protection activities and achievements per the requirements stipulated in the project documents.
  • Promote active and meaningful participation of the other field staff, beneficiaries, and other intermediaries in the project activities’ planning, implementation, and evaluation as required.
  • Ensure proper supporting documents (attendance lists with all the necessary information filled, end-of-activity reports) and ensure timely accountability and close follow-up with field payments.
  • Work closely with the M&E team to monitor project performance and ensure an appropriate level of accountability.
  • Ensure that proper mapping of the right beneficiaries is done and information is shared on time

Other

  • Undertakes other related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Ensures strict adherence to the principles of Community-based protection support at all times including respect for confidentiality and a community-centred approach, and acts in the best interests of the persons of concern.
  • Commits to and understands LWF aims, values, and principles including rights-based approach.
  • The Project Assistant must ensure that organization assets assigned to him/her are maintained and taken good care of at all times.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Works and social administration, development studies and social science from a reputable institution.
  • At least 1- 2 years’ experience in Protection from a reputable organisation.
  • At least one year experience of working in Humanitarian, Development and Peace Building related projects in refugee setting is highly desirable.
  • Ability to ride with a valid riding permit is an added advantage.

  • Excellent reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent Interpersonal and Communication Skills.
  • Records Management and Report writing skills.
  • Computer proficiency (Word, Excel etc.)
