Share An Opportunity (SAO-U) Uganda is a Christian child-centred Non-government organization. It envisions a holistically developed child within the community. The organization seeks to recruit a dynamic and self-motivated individual for the position of Programme Officer- Livelihood. The ideal candidate will be based in Napak and should have worked in a similar position for at least three years.

The Programme Officer – Livelihood, will ensure that project beneficiaries, improve their income and develop means to sustain a good livelihood to address the needs of children and youth in their households and communities.

Job Summary: The Programme Officer, Livelihood is responsible for ensuring the improved livelihood of Self Help Group members’ households.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Programme Officer, Livelihood

  1. Spearhead and facilitate the formation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in partner communities as guided by the SHG Manual.
  2. Coordinate activities of the SHGs using the Rights Based Approach to enable them to identify and analyze viable activities towards self-reliance.
  3. Build the capacity of the SHGs, CLAs and Federations.
  4. Form and maintain relationships with different stakeholders like politicians and technical personnel and making sure that they do understand the objective of the project and why they are supposed to be part of project cycle implementation.
  5. Provide technical guidance and operational support to stakeholders to enhance performance and quality assurance, share knowledge and build capacity.
  6. Implement project activities that promote disability and inclusion.
  7. Participate in the preparation of funding project proposals, budgets and activity work plans and align them with the agenda of SAO Uganda and relevant development partners.
  8. Responsible for ensuring that the ‘Self Help Group’ (SHG) community development approach is implemented in community projects and institutions according to recommended guidelines.
  9. Carry out regular visits to all beneficiary sites to assess program performance in line with the budgets, work plans and advise the partners accordingly.
  10. Support community structures come up with action plans which later give them direction in terms of the operations in achieving their set objective.
  11. Develop effective follow-up tools, data bank, reporting formats and indicators for use in projects.
  12. Ensure that participatory baseline surveys, rural appraisals are carried out as basis for Community Development project designs and support project staff to formulate and develop quality proposals in a participatory manner with key stakeholders.
  13. Spearhead and facilitate the formation of Youth Groups in partner communities.
  14. Develop management information systems in collaboration with Project staff to include monitoring forms, tracking and reporting mechanisms and the development/maintenance of computerized databases
  15. Participate in proposal development and fundraising drives within the organisation.
  16. Participate in relevant partnership committees, meetings and implement action points developed therein.
  17. Perform other relevant tasks at the request of the Programme Area Coordinator or his/her designate.

Other requirements/ competencies:

  • Functional Community groups.
  • Periodic data collection and updates.
  • Proper record management by groups
  •  Comprehensive monthly, quarterly and annual reports on the operations at the project.
  • Well managed and vibrant contacts and working relationships with all stakeholders

Qualifications & Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Development studies, Social Sciences or equivalent in a development-related field.
  2. Minimum of 3 years’ experience preferably in a NGO setting in the sector of Livelihoods.
  3. Capacity to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds as is the case in the Karamoja region.
  4. Capacity to work efficiently within a multidisciplinary team
  5. Strong ability to work independently
  6. Good interpersonal and communication skills
  7. Good computer skills

The job holder must be a hardworking, spiritually mature, focused and trustworthy individual that upholds a high sense of integrity and accountability and commitment to the vision, mission, values and aspirations of SAO Uganda

Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid riding permit is a MUST. Females are strongly encouraged to apply. Fluency in the local language; is a requirement.
