About Restless Development

Restless Development is a global non profit agency. We support the collective power of young leaders to create a better world. We are independently registered and governed in nine countries (India, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, UK, USA, Zambia and Zimbabwe) bound together by our vision for youth power. We run youth-led programmes to tackle the issues that young people care about the most.  We also run the Youth Collective – a growing network of over 4,000 local youth civil society groups and organisations in 185 countries. We are committed to creating an agency that walks the talk on power shifting, using the power shifting checklist, both internally and externally.

We know young people have the power to solve the challenges we face in our world, but they are being ignored and overlooked. We are the agency that works with young people so they can lead in solving those challenges. We have operated in Uganda since 1997. We have a track record of delivering programmes with impact. We work on the issues that young people care about the most – we react and respond to the world around us. Our work mostly falls into the following four impact priority areas; 1)Voice and  Democracy, Education and Livelihood, Gender and Sexual Health, and Climate Justice: Our programmes are genuinely life-changing, but can’t do any of this without talented, creative individuals at every level of our organisation.

Our Approach to Safeguarding.

Restless Development considers the welfare and protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults to be an organisational imperative with primacy over the success of programmes or strategic objectives. We recognize that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and we expect all of our staff, young leaders and partners to ensure we protect the communities in which we operate from harm and abide by our Safeguarding Policy.

About the Programme

In collaboration with partners, Restless Development is launching two cutting-edge, youth-focused initiatives. “Youth Voices Lab, and Youth Action Lab.”

The Youth Action Lab, will provide a unique safe and inclusive space for young African and European changemakers to connect and co-create, through the digital platform-Power to Voices, which is designed for and with activists. This will be delivered along-side  the AU-EU Youth Action Lab Fund to provide grants that facilitate youth-led initiatives in Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. This action is driven by a consortium of three  partners; OXFAM (Lead), Restless Development and the European youth forum.

The Youth Voices Lab’ (YVL) focuses primarily on interventions to support young Africans, both in the continent and across the diaspora in Europe, in their journey towards increased engagement, connection, and empowerment. This action is driven by a consortium of five partners; OXFAM (Lead), Restless Development, SEARCH for Common Ground (SEARCH), Youth Makers Hub (YMH), and CommDev Africa, with in-country programming in 15 intervention countries, and youth and stakeholders engagement  outside the intervention countries across Africa and Europe. Central to both projects are the principles of powershifting, youth leadership, inclusion, intersectionality and local ownership.

About the Role

We are looking for a values-driven, confident leader who shares our passion for youth and positive youth development. The Coordinator will have strong management skills – balancing coordination and operational delivery with a strategic focus.

The program coordinator will lead the overall efficient implementation of both programmes in Uganda, ensuring objectives are met, budget is spent appropriately and results are achieved. She/he will also engage with staff in other programme countries to guarantee delivery coherence, cross-learning, and collaborative advocacy.
