Job Summary: A Phlebotomist is a trained medical professional responsible for the safe collection of blood samples from patients (children) for testing, or transfusion purposes. The role involves working in the hospital by visiting bed to bed, wards and clinics. Phlebotomists ensure accurate specimen collection by following established protocols, maintaining patient safety, and providing excellent customer service to ease patients’ anxieties. They are also responsible for labeling and storing blood samples, maintaining records, and ensuring cleanliness and sterilization of equipment. Phlebotomists may also be tasked with administrative duties such as data entry and communicating with healthcare providers about test results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will be assigned to either attend outpatient phlebotomy clinic for all routine blood tests and IV cannulation
  • Collection of blood samples from patients (children) by venipuncture or micro techniques with as little patient discomfort as possible.
  • Identify the patient by comparing patient information on the requisition to the patient before venipuncture is performed while preserving their confidentiality
  • Record all phlebotomy requisitions
  • Label and record all test tubes, log procedures and file paperwork
  • Facilitates the collection and transportation of laboratory specimens.
  • Cannulation of any patient as requested by Medical / Nursing Staff for emergencies during working hours throughout the day including bed-side visiting.
  • Follow ethical and legal standard precautions at all times
  • Dispose all sharp instruments in a rigid sharp container
  • Clean and supply venipuncture trays
  • Maintain clean work area
  • Order supplies as needed
  • Delivery of blood bottles and other related supplies

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Holder of Diploma/Bachelor Degree in Laboratory technician or in any related field from a recognized institution
  • Proven communication, supervision, interpersonal, and managerial skills.
  • Ability to schedule and manage tasks effectively in a fast-paced growing environment
  • Fluent in English language
