Position Summary

IRC is seeking an On-Call Driver that will be attached to its Country Office in Kampala.

Scope Of Work

The On-Call Driver will be responsible for the safe transportation of IRC staff and materials as well as providing a high level of customer care services, S/he is also responsible for maintaining vehicles assigned to him/her and their accessories. He/ she shall drive IRC vehicles when called upon.

Responsibilities

  • He/She is responsible for physical security of IRC vehicles assigned to him/her.
  • Ensure daily cleanness, maintenance of the assigned vehicles and any accessories supplied with the vehicle.
  • Ensuring vehicle have full onboard documentation. (Insurance, Waiver form, etc.)
  • He or she should Know how to use onboard equipment such as 4×4, radios or winches.
  • Complete routine maintenance checks as detailed by the Transport Manager.
  • Operate vehicles in a manner maximizing the safety of passengers and of other road users.
  • Ensure that S/he undertakes only IRC business and transports only IRC-approved personnel.
  • Complying with all local road laws and appropriate customs.
  • Complying with all security directives.
  • Maintaining the vehicle’s log sheet.
  • Ensuring that the vehicle has sufficient fuel.
  • Maintaining the external and internal cleanliness of the vehicle.
  • Adhering to IRC vehicle use policy and operating procedures (use of logbook, no drinking and driving, signing out vehicle on vehicle registry, etc.).
  • Perform any other assigned duties.

SAFEGUARDING

  • Promote and actively participate in initiatives (training, awareness raising etc) and efforts to build team engagement, inclusion, and cohesion in IRC [team/office]
  • Foster ongoing learning, honest dialogue, and reflection to strengthen safeguarding and to promote IRC values and adherence to IRC policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Essential Requirements

  • A minimum qualification of UCE Certificate including at least a pass in English. Any qualification above this will be an added advantage.
  • Must have a valid driving permit with classes B and D1.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and first aid administration.
  • Applicants should have at least a minimum of Seven (7) years driving experience with driving record justified with recommendation letter(s) from the former employer(s)
  • A defensive driving certification from a well-recognized training institution is an added advantage.
