The Role

The Officer, Program Implementation – Safe Water Now Position is primarily a field-based position, which plays an important role in the expansion of Chlorine Dispensers/Inline Chlorination (ILC) program in delivering safe water and hygiene knowledge in the target communities. The Officer, Program Implementation-Safe Water Now position is based at a field office and reports to the Associate, Area Coordinator – Safe Water Now.

Responsibilities

  • Field execution of chlorine dispenser/ILC and related activities in the target communities
  • Conduct local government/stakeholders’ meetings with guidance from the associate area coordinator
  • Performs water point nominations/verification surveys to obtain viable water points lists for chlorine dispenser and ILC
  • Conduct community sensitization/awareness meetings and mobilize positive community participation in the program
  • Supervise chlorine dispenser and ILC water points by ensuring masons/plumbers/technicians adhere to the installation guidelines/protocols/designs
  • Conduct education meetings at installed water points (dispensers and ILC water points) to sensitize the household users on gadget utilization to prevent waterborne diseases
  • Select and train community volunteers – promoters that will be responsible for the water points as liaison people between the program and the community
  • Developing weekly work plans and prepare feedback reports for field activities
  • Other duties and responsibilities as delegated by the Associate, Area Coordinator-Safe Water Now

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Conduct meetings and awareness in target communities
  • Expansion and scaling of safe water programs (Chlorine dispensers and ILC)
  • Conduct school campaigns
  • Health Centre visits

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelors Degree in Social sciences and Community Development or related courses, Public Health, Project management or equivalent
  • Motor cycle/motor vehicle riding skills with a valid driving license is an added advantage
  • 1-2 yrs experience working with communities or social enterprises/NGOs
  • Good language skills in English is a must. Proficiency in speaking the local language/dialect used in target areas is a definite advantage (including Lusoga, Lugisu, Lugwere, Atesot, Japadhola among others)
  • Experience using electronic data collection platforms, specifically open data kit (ODK) and survey CTO are preferred
  • High level of integrity and stewardship
  • Embraces team work and aspires and supports the ideals of working in a team work environment as a team champion
  • Passion to work in a rural community setting and willingness to use a motorcycle in the field (riding or being ridden)
  • Flexible mindset and willingness to relocate on a short notice to other field-based assignments in other regions
  • Self-driven and highly motivated to deliver results within tight deadlines
  • Basic leadership skills in managing people, working with communities and teams
  • Proactive and ambitious to support innovation and change in a dynamic working environment
  • Positive attitude to work and develop in a fast-paced work environment
  • Basic Microsoft Word and Excel competency
  • Ability to multitask and manage difficult situations with tact
  • Able to work and solve problems independently

Working conditions

The official working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm from Monday to Friday. However, this job requires a flexible person as one may work beyond official working hours including weekends. In addition, the job holder may be given an assignment within a short period of time. This job is physically demanding so good physical and mental health are key.

Position Location

This role will be based in Kaliro, Uganda.
