Purpose of the Job
To move bodies to the morgue, and from the morgue to a funeral home, prepare the deceased for examination by a pathologist, clean and set up instruments, pick tissue specimens, ensure all specimens and cadavers are tagged, and in general supporting the functions of the mortuary. |
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Storing and retrieving bodies from the cold storage
- General upkeep and cleanliness of facilities
- Get bodies ready for autopsy
- Preparing equipment, cleaning and storing safe after use
- Communicate with hospital and families regarding mortuary services and funeral arrangements
- Receiving of bodies from wards, public and Police and delivering same to relatives/ police
- Preparing bodies for dispatch
- Referring clients to grief counselors
- Cleaning and verifying hospital documentation
- Embalming, dressing and casket the decease. May also need to cosmetically enhance the deceased
- Maintains and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
- Values and maintains high integrity levels
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Certificate/Diploma in Mortuary Sciences from a recognized institution
- Possess a current and valid registration certificate with the relevant licensing body for morticians;
- Minimum 2 years working experience.
- Must be empathic, compassionate and organized
- Must also be willing to work odd hours, including evenings and weekends when the need arises.
- Have demonstrated ability, initiative and competence in organizing, directing and discharging duties and responsibilities at that level.
- Must demonstrate high integrity and ethical practice
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills
- Must have knowledge of different culture
- Must have knowledge in use of MS office packages
