Manager- Internal Controls (Integrated Channels)

REPORTING TO: Head of Internal Controls Unit

JOB PURPOSE: Reporting to the Head of Internal Controls Unit, the role holder will be responsible for the identification, measurement, assessment, monitoring, resolution and reporting of control gaps by evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls in compliance with policies and procedures to achieve an improved and sustainable control environment and enhance the risk and control culture across the Bank.

LOCATION: Kampala

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Plan and execute timely and quality standard and ad hoc reviews to identify control gaps and escalate them through the appropriate Control Governance.
  • Design and perform controls-based snap checks, reviews, revenue assurance, and exception investigations, across all the bank’s key processes.
  • Liaise with the different stakeholders to create effective design, analysis and remediation of control measures for gaps identified.
  • Liaise with the Risk champions to undertake risk identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting through the available tools, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Champion a healthy risk and control culture across the bank through training and awareness as well as advisory and guidance.
  • Support issue owners to sustainably close all audit (internal and external) findings, to avoid repeat and overdue issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis for non-fraud incidents and recommend and track remedial actions.
  • Participate in the review of the policies, procedures, service level, agreements, guidelines and process flows.
  • Manage a team of assigned officers, maintaining high engagement levels to ensure completion of the work plan.
  • Monitor the effective implementation of the operational risk framework i.e. loss control, incident management, BCM, and IRM as per the approved risk management framework across the network.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • A minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree in a business-related field.
  • Professional certification /Qualification in risk management/ audit will be an added advantage
  • At least 5 years experience in banking, 3 of which should have been in controls-related roles
  • Knowledge of enterprise risk management and business continuity planning
  • Specialized skills or demonstrable knowledge of any of the Branch, Credit, Technology, Treasury processes and controls
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies as they relate to banking
  • Knowledge of applicable business processes and operations of financial institutions
  • Strong leadership skills, collaboration and communication skill
  • Analytical Thinking & Inductive Reasoning, Planning and Organization, Problem Solving
