About the Role
We are seeking a new role as a Machine Operator to manage the operation and maintenance of the FSTP facility machinery in Kakuma. The Machine Operator will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the briquette press, shredder, and solar plant. This role involves ensuring optimal performance of all machinery within the factory by performing necessary pre-operation checks, monitoring operational performance, leading scheduled maintenance activities, addressing emerging issues, overseeing significant repairs, and recommending best practices for equipment management. The successful candidate for this role will be based in Kakuma.
Roles and Responsibilities
Machine operation
- Safe and optimal running of the machines (Briquette press, shredder, and solar plant)
- Ensuring proper start-up and shutdown of the process equipment
- Ensuring proper operation protocols are observed
- Adherence to health and safety requirements while operating all machinery
- Ensuring quality output of any product being produced (Moisture content, colour, and density).
- Develop reports daily on machine operations
Maintenance
- Lead the team during machine maintenance.
- Monitoring maintenance schedule and spare parts stock
- Maintaining a detailed machine maintenance log
- Quarterly wall cleaning in the machine hangar
- Quarterly cleaning of the water tanks
- Carrying out minor repairs to site equipment
- Conducting regular inspections of machine parts such as belts, bearings, and motors to identify signs of wear and potential issues
- Conducting regular assessments of equipment performance to identify areas for improvement and efficiency gains.
- Assist in the implementation of energy-saving initiatives to reduce operational costs
- Ensuring that the generator is full of fuel and ready to run
- Recording maintenance data and submitting it to the general manager
Monitoring
- Daily machine checks
- Ensure fuel is in stock for the generator
- Lead daily, weekly, and monthly checks for all equipment
- Spot check for any unusual machine noise
- Carrying out routine inspections of electrical equipment, such as motors, switches, and wiring to identify any signs of wear, damage, or potential electrical hazards
- Report any issues for further action
Cleaning
- Washing your dust coats/overalls, gumboots, and utensils
- Disinfection of surfaces gates, door handles, chairs, and tools
Qualifications
- High School graduate.
- Possess a Certificate of Education in Machine Operation or an Artisan certificate in machine repair and maintenance.
- Knowledge of production procedures and ability to read manuals, troubleshoot, and report observations and findings.
- Two years of experience operating and maintaining press, dryer machines, or equivalent production machines.
- Proven good conduct.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Great interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle insecure environments.
