We are currently hiring for the above position:

Job Purpose:

To lead and oversee all operations of the laboratory at Luton Hospital, ensuring the delivery of accurate and timely diagnostic services. The role focuses on maintaining high standards of quality, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency while actively driving revenue generation through strategic service offerings, client acquisi-tion, and cost management.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee daily laboratory operations to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with hospital policies and national standards, while maintaining well-serviced and calibrated equipment.
  2. Develop and implement strategies to maximize laboratory revenue by introducing new services and acquiring clients such as doctors, clinics, and corporate organizations.
  3. Drive quality assurance by implementing robust quality control measures and maintaining standard operating procedures for all laboratory tests and services.
  4. Build and maintain strong relationships with clinicians, external laboratories, and corporate clients to support business growth and promptly address client concerns.
  5. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate laboratory staff to foster high performance and motivation while conducting training programs to enhance team skills.
  6. Monitor inventory levels, ensure timely procurement of laboratory supplies, and optimize stock management to minimize wastage and prevent stock outs.
  7. Ensure compliance with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) regulations and prepare the laboratory for internal and external audits.
  8. Deliver timely and accurate test results to clients and clinicians, and regularly update the test menu based on market demand and technological advancements.
  9. Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing health and safety protocols and ensuring proper disposal of biomedical waste.
  10. Keep accurate records of laboratory activities, including test results, revenue, and quality logs, while utilizing laboratory information management systems (LIMS) for efficient data handling.
  11. Prepare and manage the laboratory budget to ensure cost-effective operations without compromising service quality. 
  12. Research and recommend the adoption of new laboratory technologies and methodologies to stay competitive and enhance service delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Diploma in Medical Laboratory or equivalent.
  • Licensed by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) with a valid practicing certificate.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record in revenue generation and business growth in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory equipment, tests, and quality management systems.
  • Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and financial reporting tools.
