Stable Foods provides affordable healthy produce for all Kenyans. We seek a communicative, organized, experienced Site Operator who will ensure high quality low cost produce from each of their farmer partners.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
The Site Operator is responsible for supporting the farming of small-holders on their site. The SO will perform daily land checks and detailed scouting to assess crop health. Additionally, the SO will train the farmers, in groups and on-the-job. The SO will coach them with planning, helping them select the right inputs/sprays, and ensuring the best possible yields. Additionally, you will own farming activities on demo plots and perform supportive activities such as composting.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Work with the Production Manager to develop a plan for the plots on your site
· Help the farmers decide on their next crop and help them make their deadlines of important dates
· Daily check all plots, scout for pests and diseases, coach the farmer partners in crop protection
· With the Production Manager, take decisions on feeding / spraying regimes
· Sell the farmer our safe and certified inputs or check which other products they use
· Ensure that your Irrigation colleague performs Irrigation in the right timing and to the right quality
· Oversee harvesting, grading, weighing and dispatching of crops
· Administrate all input sales, irrigation payments, harvest results and other important documentation
· Compare the farmers cost and income and help them keep track of their financials
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum 5 years’ experience in farming, preferably with drip-line irrigation
· Proven ability to lead a team and coordinate multiple activity streams at once
· Spreadsheet literacy and record-keeping experience required
· Proactive and clear communicator
· Must be willing to live close to working area (accommodation not provided); preference for someone who is from the local community
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be physically fit enough to walk far distances and regularly lift and carry 20kg
