Job Title; Irrigation Engineer
Reports to: Field Service & Customer Service Manager
Role Summary:
The Irrigation Engineer is a critical member of our growing team. For an early career professional or engineer with irrigation experience, it is a great opportunity to develop your skills and build a career in the growing solar industry. Irrigation engineers work on large and complicated landscape irrigation projects that require construction plans. Irrigation Engineers analyze existing site surveys, conduct research and identify potential structural and environmental problems. Design systems done in this role are expected to meet all requirements, protect the structural integrity of the site and comply with all regulations. A candidate in this role is expected to develop BOQ cost estimates and impact studies, and are actively involved in surveying and construction on the job site.
Responsibilities
You are responsible for a variety of mission critical areas that will give you exposure to all aspects of our operations and technology:
- Meet with clients, Engineers, Production Officers, District commissioners to discuss project objectives, designs, budgets and other requirements.
- Deliver high-quality work consistently, meeting or exceeding company standards.
- Ensure attention to detail in all tasks and projects, maintaining accuracy and precision.
- Uphold the highest standards of work quality in all deliverables.
- Continuously strive for excellence and improvement in work processes and outcomes.
- Adhere to company quality assurance policies and procedures.
- Originate and review environmental assessments, survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical and geologic data.
- Execute on irrigation design approvals on systems internal to Tulima Solar
- Analyze water patterns, soil drainage and conservation problems, water supply and flow, and other environmental conditions to identify engineering problems and assess project’s potential impact.
- Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates and material stress factors to determine design specifications.
- Develop efficient and cost-effective irrigation designs that meet all requirements.
- Prepare site plans, specifications, cost estimates and environmental impact assessment.
- Direct or participate in surveying to establish reference points, grades and elevations to guide construction.
- Monitor job site progress and ensure compliance with design specifications and environmental, safety and other government regulations.
- Help procure materials for projects based on various projects.
- Customer technical support (level 2) and support to our customer services team;
- Field service repairs, removals and installations, involving travel;
- Testing and quality control of solar, battery, and communications hardware received from manufacturer;
- Assembly, soldering and production activities of products for testing and/or sale;
- Product development support, including prototype hardware programming, measurement, and testing;
- Troubleshooting of hardware failures, determining root cause and potential fixes;
Skills and Qualifications:
The Irrigation Engineer needs to be experienced with a number of technologies, responsible, and eager to learn:
- Hold a Technical Certificate or Diploma in Irrigation Engineering, Water resource Management, Electrical or Electronic engineering or, manufacturing process control or related field;
- Minimum of two (2) years in AutoCAD designs, Civil 3-D, Plumbing, digital circuitry and electronics (D), including measurement and assembly (basic);
- Experience with technical support, either in a call-centre or internal context;
- Excellent communication skills: able to diagnose and instruct;
- Proven ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines;
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy;
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining high standards of work quality in previous roles;
- Ability to identify and implement improvements to enhance work quality;
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with precision;
- Highly organized and process-oriented;
- Thorough with great attention to detail;
- Excellent quality control skills for work done;
- Desire to develop as a technologist and learn the solar industry;
- Quick, flexible learner that can acquire some of the necessary skills on the job.
Location
The role is based in Kampala and/or surrounding regions based on the need to be determined by the immediate supervisor with a considerate amount of travel.
