About the Role
We are looking for an Investment Monitoring Associate based in Nairobi, Kenya to contribute to the monitoring and technical assistance to our investment facilities’ borrowers.
Among others, the Monitoring Associate will be responsible for:
- Engage with portfolio investments, including holding monthly / quarterly calls with borrowers, maintaining notes and reporting back to portfolio management;
- Monitoring portfolio investments, including collecting borrower financial and impact performance indicators and anticipating any emerging or ongoing credit risk issues;
- Maintaining portfolio trackers, including imputing key financial ratios and impact indicators on a quarterly or monthly basis;
- Providing technical assistance, including working with borrowers to finalize conditions precedent prior to investment, technical assistance as detailed in the risk assessment and investment plan, and supporting borrowers to improve their accounting procedures and accounting quality.
Who you are
We are looking for an independent team player with documented work experience in impact investing, banking, PE, or VC funding, ideally with a development angle. Key attributes / skills for this exciting role are:
- 2-3 years of relevant work experience in a position focused on investment monitoring and technical assistance focused on business and financial management;
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus on business administration, accounting, and/or finance – accounting licenses are an advantage;
- Demonstrable experience in understanding and interpreting financial statements, building financial models, and drafting investment memorandums and supporting documentation;
- Analytical skills, both financial and business (SWOT and PESTLE), and experience using a variety of risk, social, and environmental impact assessments.
In addition, you may bring:
- The ability to organise your own time and tasks, including taking responsibility while keeping a transparent and open dialogue with your team across national borders;
- Strong analytical capabilities, including the ability to process large amounts of information and data from multiple sources and mediate key messages and findings clearly to the target audience;
- Language skills, such as German or French;
- Convincing communication skills, with full proficiency in English and mastering MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint).

You will work closely with Elizabeth West, the Head of Impact Ventures and colleagues in the local iGravity office. You will become part of a dynamic team and organisation with colleagues in Zurich, Kampala, Nairobi and Milan.
