Role Summary: The Head of BI is a key leadership role in Twiga Foods, responsible for availing accurate and timely insights for decision making. This role involves overseeing the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data to provide actionable insights, and guiding strategic initiatives across the organization. S/he will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify business needs, while fostering a data-centric decision-making culture that enhances operational efficiency. S/he will lead a BI center of excellence and drive the development of best practices, tools, and dashboards.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive BI strategy to support data-driven decision-making and facilitate alignment with Twiga’s overall business objectives.
- Oversee data analysis and visualization to generate actionable insights, focusing on deep-dive analytics for the commercial teams to drive product strategy and optimize performance.
- Act as a thought partner for the Commercial / Operations team, assisting in performance assessment, identification of cost-saving opportunities, and optimization of operational workflows.
- Manage and optimize BI tools, analytics platforms, and reporting systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and usability for stakeholders.
- Collaborate with various departments to define and monitor KPIs and metrics that measure and enhance organizational performance, ensuring consistent KPI definitions for clarity and decision-making.
- In coordination with the Twiga Tech team to develop and maintain a structured data architecture and robust database management system to support scalable, organization-wide data solutions.
- Promote a data-centric culture within Twiga by enhancing data literacy across teams and providing training / best practices to ensure effective usage.
- Oversee budgeting and resource allocation for BI initiatives and projects, bearing a cost-conscious mindset.
- Monitor industry trends and emerging BI technologies, implementing best practices to maintain a competitive advantage.
- Train and upskill the BI team.
- Mentor and develop a team of data and BI analysts.
Qualifications and Experience Criteria:
Hard skills
- University degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, IT, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field is a plus
- +8 yrs experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or a similar data-driven role of which +3yrs in senior management role(s)
- Proficiency in analysing complex commercial datasets, with the ability to leverage comprehension of organization’s needs to provide actionable insights.
- Skills in defining key performance indicators. Exposure to commercial and retail context is preferred.
- Ability to develop forecasting models and use predictive analytics to inform decision-making.
- Experience in managing BI projects, from planning to implementation and evaluation.
- Expertise in BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) and analytics platforms.
- Knowledge of data governance best practices to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance.
- Familiarity with programming languages like Python or R for data manipulation and analysis.
- Cost conscious and efficient, able to deliver organizational needs while maintaining target budgets.
Soft skills
- Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills, able to leverage technical skills to identify insights and make strategic recommendations.
- Ability to convey complex data insights clearly and concisely to non-technical stakeholders.
