Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and Barrick health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Report all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) issues via an incident report.
- Ensuring that safety and environmental rules and programs are strictly adhered to.
- Perform task risk assessments (JHA, FLRA).
- Assist with any other accident investigation when required.
- Commitment to identification, notification and/or rectification of all unsafe acts, situations, and hazards within the workplace
- Maintain sampling at a high standards and ongoing basis operate field equipment.
- Ensuring the drill samples are collected in accordance with the SOP including recording of all required information and routine quality assurance and quality control practices.
- Sort, store, and retrieve pulp and coarse rejects samples.
- Report oil and diesel spills and leaking equipment.
- Carry out mark out to the required standard for mining.
- Perform ore spotting in pit and at ROM pad.
- Assist with and participate in training programs for the development of all Geological Assistants
- Control and maintain the daily blending strategy and direct and record ore trucks onto appropriate stockpile.
- Accurate recording of daily production.
- Update of mining faces on dig plans.
- Mark out / label stockpiles as well updating faces on map.
Qualification requirements
- Certificate of secondary education examination.
- Diploma or Certificate in Geology or Tertiary in Geological Technician will be advantageous.
- Driver’s license and pit/mine driving permit.
Experience and competencies needed.
- Familiar with the mining environment and its associated hazards
- Actively recognizes and manages hazards in their working environment.
- Able to drive a light vehicle according to LV standard operating procedure.
- Able to learn rapidly from attempts, building positive experience.
- Ability to work autonomously/independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to act and operate as part of a team and possess a “can do” attitude that will motivate the crew to action company directives, regardless of opinion.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this job required.
- Familiarity with and commitment to HSE best practice.
- Ability to consistently manage such a diversified portfolio in a high-pressure environment.
- Highly professional conduct at all times and the ability to deal with a diverse client base.
- Significant base knowledge of all the areas depicted in the profile
