Job Purpose:
The forklift mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on forklifts and other material handling equipment. This role requires a thorough understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work efficiently and safely.
Key Accountabilities:
- Conduct routine maintenance services such as oil changes, battery checks, tire inspections, and brake adjustments.
- Replace worn or defective parts with new or reconditioned parts.
- Develop and follow preventive maintenance schedules for forklifts and other material handling equipment.
- Communicate with customers or internal staff to explain equipment issues and repair needs.
- Provide cost estimates for repairs and maintenance services.
- Properly use and maintain tools and equipment.
- Use diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical and electrical issues in forklifts.
- Interpret diagnostic reports to determine necessary repairs.
- Perform repairs on forklift engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, and other components.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and diagnostic procedures.
- Document parts used, labor time, and services performed.
Qualifications, Experience & Attributes:
- A diploma or equivalent in Automotive mechanics
- Technical certification or degree in diesel technology, automotive technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience as a mechanic or in a similar role, specifically with forklifts or material handling equipment.
- Experience with various forklift makes and models.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- 4yrs Years Experience in forklift repairs and Maintenance.
