About the Role

We are seeking a Finance Intern to support our financial processes, planning, and reporting at Axum. This internship offers hands-on experience in financial operations, compliance, and analysis, contributing to the organization’s efficiency and transparency while aligning with Axum’s broader mission and impact at local and global levels.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and analytical individual eager to learn and grow in a collaborative, cross-functional environment. The Finance Intern will be an integral part of Axum’s operations team, assisting Consultants and Partners with financial tasks and gaining valuable exposure to the financial management of a mission-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Post detailed entries to accounting records and prepare standard journal and ledger entries
  • Prepare and verify various standard accounting entries for financial data processing system, reconcile report discrepancies and problems
  • Perform monthly closing processes and periodic reporting
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations
  • Review submitted expense reports for approval
  • Assist with reviewing and obtaining all Accounts Payable for timely payment
  • Provide Accounts Receivable collection support
  • Perform inter-company, receivables, and account payable reconciliations
  • Responsible for the timely filing of statutory returns and payments e.g. VAT, PAYE, withholding taxes
  • Manage relationships with vendors and negotiate payment terms as necessary
  • Maintain and manage company assets as well as the asset register
  • Responsible for the preparation and submission of all client invoices on a timely basis
  • Support the planning and execution of annual financial audits and any other audits as may be required by country regulations
  • Responsible for the reimbursement of professional expenses promptly
  • Support the Operations Team in the roll-out of firm-wide initiatives
  • Other tasks as required

What We Are Looking For

 

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Accounts, or its equivalent
  • ACCA/CPA-K qualification or its equivalent is an added advantage
  • Experience in a similar role is desirable
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in working with people from different cultures and varied geographical locations is desirable
