About the Organization: A dynamic and impactful non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and addressing pressing global challenges is seeking an experienced Finance & Accounts Officer. The organization works closely with international partners, government agencies, and local communities on a wide range of projects focused on climate action, waste management, and capacity building.
Position Overview: We are looking for a Finance & Accounts Officer to manage and oversee the financial operations of the organization in line with international standards and donor requirements. This is a hybrid position that offers flexibility to work both remotely and on-site in Abuja. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with financial policies, maintain accurate records, and ensure the timely submission of financial reports to international partners and donors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage daily financial operations including budgeting, financial planning, cash flow, and accounting processes.
- Ensure compliance with international financial policies, including grant-funded procurement and travel policies.
- Prepare, review, and submit financial reports and statements to donors and partners.
- Maintain accurate and complete financial records in accordance with international accounting standards.
- Oversee grant management, including allocation, expenditure tracking, and reporting to international donors.
- Ensure timely processing of payments, reimbursements, and payroll.
- Conduct internal and external audits, ensuring full compliance with donor requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations and handle tax audits when necessary.
- Liaise with external auditors, donors, and stakeholders to provide financial data and reports.
- Implement financial policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certifications such as ACCA, ACA, CPA, or equivalent are highly preferred.
- Experience: At least 5 years of professional accounting experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a financial management role.
- International Standards: Proven experience with international organizations, NGOs, or donor-funded projects, and strong knowledge of IFRS and grant management.
- Auditing: Experience conducting audits related to donor-funded projects.
- Grant Management: Expertise in financial management and reporting for international grants.
Key Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office, especially Power BI and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a diverse team.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
- Proven ability to prepare clear and concise financial reports.
- Familiarity with compliance requirements for international donors.
Knowledge:
- Thorough understanding of grant-funded procurement policies and travel/expense management.
- Familiarity with Nigerian tax laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices is a plus.
