Background
The Cherangany Project will be implemented within West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet
County to sustainably restore and ensure sustainable management of the Cherangany
Forest Ecosystems for climate change resilience and improved livelihoods.
The project objective will be delivered through the following five components:
1. Protection and Rehabilitation of the Cherangany forest ecosystem.
2. Promotion of Sustainable Land Management Practices.
3. Livelihoods and nature-based enterprises for forest-adjacent communities.
4. Capacity building of County governments and local conservation community
groups; and
5. Establishment of Financing mechanisms for the Cherangany Forest Ecosystem
Major functions
The Field Officers will be responsible for coordinating and implementing various field
activities and working closely with local communities, project partners, and stakeholders
to achieve the project’s conservation and restoration goals.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with community leaders and stakeholders to ensure their active
involvement in project activities.
Conduct regular field surveys and assessments to gather data on the status of
implementation of activities.
Organize training workshops for community members.
Collaborate with project partners to ensure a coordinated approach to project
implementation.
Prepare regular progress reports and document all field activities, achievements,
challenges, and lessons learned.
Maintain a comprehensive record of field data, photographs, and case studies.
Support the Project Implementation unit to manage logistics for the project
including the procurement of equipment, supplies, and materials.
Qualifications and Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Environmental Studies,
Development Studies, or any other related field.
Experience in conservation and ecosystem restoration is an added advantage.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of the local language and customs is an advantage.
Ability to work in a remote and challenging environment.
Strong organizational and project management skills
