Archdiocese of Kisumu (ADoK) was established in 1925 covering Kisumu and Siaya Counties with headquarters in Kisumu town. ADoK seeks to recruit a qualified, experienced, result oriented and highly motivated individual for the position of Diocesan Accountant to join its secretariat.
The job holder will be responsible for preparation of financial statements, verification of financial records and transactions, analysis of cashflow, review of budgets and forecasts, overseeing audits and preparation of reports for decision making.
H/She will report to the Diocesan Finance Administrator.
The position is on an annual contract renewable based on performance and availability of funds.
Duties and responsibilities;
- Review and manage accounts receivables and payables.
- Prepare documentation for external audit and participate in it.
- Carry out reconciliations monthly for accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
- Provide technical support to the accountants within the institutions under the Archdiocese
of Kisumu - Monitor expenditure against the budget and address variances in consultation with the Diocesan Finance Administrator.
- Ensure timely and accurate accounting, reporting and analysis in order to aid management decision making.
- Prepare budgets and periodic financial performance reports for presentation to the Archbishop and Finance Council.
- Establish the necessary systems and procedures to safeguard fixed assets including the maintenance of complete, accurate and up to date fixed assets register/records.
- Develop systems for the effective and efficient management of financial resources.
- Formulate and implement sound financial and accounting policies, procedures and systems which are compliant with acceptable accounting policies and legal requirements.
- Participate in the continuous review and upgrade of accounting systems and procedures in line with the Archdiocese of Kisumu’s operating systems and internal control requirements.
- Certify and verify returns, documents, vouchers and authorize the payments as required by the diocesan accounting policies and procedures
Knowledge & Skills
- A Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or any other related subject
- Certified Public Accountant (K) or Association of Certified Chartered Accountant qualification
- Must be a member of ICPAK.
- At least 7 years’ experience in accounting field; three of which should have been in a managerial position.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficient in accounting software and MS Office especially excel.
- Must be a critical thinker and have problem solving skills.
- Knowledge of relevant financial reporting standards.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be knowledgeable on budget preparation.
