The Database Administrator will report to the CBS Specialist and will be based at Head office. He/ she will be responsible for providing database administration expertise and support for the Pride’s ICT database infrastructure by creating and maintaining database environments in a proactive manner, identification of sources of golden data and resolving incidents/responding to service requests.
Specific responsibilities include: –
• To execute procedures for database operations, maintenance, security, archiving and recovery.
• Provide substantive input to systems Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plan and ensuring proper fail over setup plans.
• Effective database license management. All database licenses must be optimally used and decommission unused database servers to avoid costs above budget.
• Analyse business application requirements and develop specifications for databases construction and maintenance.
• Maintains up-to-date documentation of all enterprise databases operations manuals and procedures.
• Monitors the status of end-of-cycle activities including backups ensuring compliance with schedules Critical server Uptime.
• Investigate problems with databases and end-of-cycle runs, ensure appropriate corrective action, or escalate problems as appropriate.
• Act as liaison for vendors as they support complex database-related issues, systems, and implementation projects.
• Address a variety of database integration issues including synchronization between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications.
Minimum academic qualifications, Experience & competences;
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or any related field.
• 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
• Should have knowledge of Microsoft Server Operating Systems and UNIX i.e., SOLARIS & Linux, SQL and database management Systems.
• Excellent experience in system scripting, such as PERL, PYTHON, Shell and working with open-source RDBMS e.g., MySQL.
• ICT Security Knowledge will be of added advantage.
• He/she should not be more than 40 years of age.
