Job Summary:

BDO East Africa Kenya is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Data Steward to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining data cleanliness, performing daily data sign-offs, and utilizing various data classification tools such as Microsoft Purview to ensure data integrity and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Cleanliness and Quality:

· Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data across all systems.

· Regularly review and clean data to remove duplicates, correct errors, and update outdated information.

· Implement and maintain data quality rules and standards.

Daily Data Sign-Off:

· Perform daily data validation and sign-off processes to ensure data readiness for business operations.

· Coordinate with relevant departments to resolve data discrepancies and issues promptly.

Data Classification:

· Utilize data classification tools like Microsoft Purview to categorize and label data according to its sensitivity and compliance requirements.

· Develop and maintain data classification policies and procedures.

Data Governance:

· Collaborate with the Data Governance Manager to implement and enforce data governance. policies

· Ensure adherence to data governance standards and best practices across the organization.

Data Documentation:

· Create and maintain comprehensive data documentation, including data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, and metadata repositories.

· Ensure all data documentation is up-to-date and accessible to relevant stakeholders.

Training and Support:

· Provide training and support to team members and other departments on data management best practices and tools.

· Act as a point of contact for data-related queries and issues.

Compliance and Security:

· Ensure data handling practices comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

· Monitor data access and usage to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches.

Qualifications:

· Education: Bachelor’s degree in information management, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.

· Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in data management, data governance, or a similar role.

Technical Skills:

· Proficiency in data classification tools such as Microsoft Purview.

· Strong knowledge of data quality principles and best practices.

· Familiarity with data governance frameworks and standards.

· Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.

· Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data issues to non-technical stakeholders.

· Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

Nice to have:

· Experience in the audit or advisory services industry.

Certification in data management or data governance (e.g., CDMP, DGSP).
