Are you a passionate young Kenyan looking to make a difference? Do you want to be part of a transformative initiative that addresses climate change while creating jobs and improving communities? Here is your chance to step up and take action!
The Government of Kenya is excited to announce the launch of the Climate Resilience Services Programme, also known as WorkX Mtaani. This groundbreaking initiative aims to tackle climate challenges head-on while providing sustainable employment opportunities for young people across the nation. By engaging in vital activities like river clean-ups, tree planting, and improving sanitation, you can contribute to building a resilient and greener Kenya!
What is WorkX Mtaani?
WorkX Mtaani is more than just a job opportunity – it’s a movement toward creating a sustainable future. Through this initiative, we will rehabilitate riparian reserves and provide alternative housing solutions to communities affected by environmental changes, as part of our broader Affordable Housing Programme. With a vision to plant 15 billion trees and significantly mitigate the effects of climate change, this program offers a unique opportunity for youth to be at the forefront of this transformative effort.
Key Benefits of the Climate Resilience Service Programme (CRSP):
- Job Creation:
Over 200,000 job opportunities are available for youth throughout Kenya. Starting with 20,000 positions in Nairobi for the cleaning of the Nairobi River, the program will expand to other cities, including cleaning rivers like Ngong and Mathari, tree planting, and enhancing sanitation in informal settlements. - Climate Resilience and Recovery:
CRSP focuses on real, impactful environmental projects, offering hands-on experience while preparing participants for future employment or educational pursuits. You’ll be directly involved in activities that promote environmental sustainability and climate resilience. - Inclusivity for All:
Open to all Kenyan citizens aged 18 and above, CRSP welcomes applicants from every corner of the country. Whether you live in a rural area or an urban center, there is a place for you in this national effort. - Skill Building and Personal Growth:
Participants will not only receive fair wages but also gain valuable skills training that supports their growth and future aspirations. Expect training sessions on life skills, entrepreneurship, and opportunities to transition into higher education or employment. - Coordinated by Multi-Agency Governance:
The program is governed by a collaborative effort involving both national and county governments, with the National Youth Service (NYS) playing a key supervisory role to ensure smooth implementation.
Program Commencement Date: October 1, 2024
Mark your calendars! The program officially kicks off on October 1, 2024, starting with major interventions aimed at improving the safety, health, and sustainability of informal settlements within the Nairobi River Basin. This is just the beginning of a nationwide movement that will grow and evolve, providing opportunities across the country.
During this period, participants will be empowered with practical work experience and life skills training that will facilitate their smooth transition into the workforce, higher education, or entrepreneurship.
