JOB TITLE: CRITICAL CARE NURSE

REPORTS: NURSE IN-CHARGE ICU

 

a) JOB PURPOSE

Providing high standard of nursing care to critically ill patients in line with the hospital’s policies and procedures and accountable for a shift in the section.

 

b) MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out specific tests, analyze, interpret, troubleshoot, and initiate immediate intervention.
  • Engage with doctors and other care providers on a daily basis regarding patients’ Plan of Care and Care solutions with emphasis on a team- based problem-solving approach to provide unified approach to patient care.
  • Administering treatment plans to patients as prescribed.
  • Relay accurate information to clinical staff on a patient’s condition.
  • Responding to and reporting any abnormal recordings to the person in charge.
  • Labeling and dispatching specimens to the laboratory promptly and safely.
  • Ensure routine duties are done to prepare and clear the ward before admission and after discharge.
  • Provide health education to patients and follow up care.
  • Address patients’ complaints and emergencies as they arise.
  • Carry out patients’ proper orientation within the section.
  •  Overall supervision of section activities in an assigned shift.
  • Mentor junior nurses in the hospital and students attached in the department.
  • Any other duty assigned by the supervisor in line with the job description.

c) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS

  • Higher Diploma in Critical Care Nursing (KRCCN).
  • Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing. A degree in Nursing will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in a critical care unit post-KRCCN training and licensure and 2 years as a general nurse.
  • Valid BLS/ACLS certification.

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
