Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Credit Analyst to join our team in Nairobi. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing the credit portfolio, ensuring the accurate implementation of credit policies, and maintaining a balance between business growth and credit risk. The Credit Analyst will assess, monitor, and evaluate the creditworthiness of clients to ensure effective credit risk management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Credit Policy Implementation: Ensure the accurate and consistent application of the company’s credit policies and procedures in all lending decisions.
  • Loan Portfolio Management: Oversee and manage the loan portfolio, ensuring that it grows while maintaining a low risk of defaults.
  • Credit Risk Assessment: Perform detailed financial and risk assessments of current and potential clients, using various credit evaluation tools and methodologies.
  • Financial Analysis: Analyse financial statements, credit reports, cash flow, and other relevant financial data to assess creditworthiness.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Regularly monitor the performance of the loan portfolio and report on trends, risks, and potential issues. Prepare detailed reports for senior management on portfolio performance.
  • Credit Approvals & Recommendations: Provide recommendations for credit approvals, renewals, extensions, or changes in terms, ensuring that all decisions are aligned with the company’s risk appetite.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identify and recommend strategies to mitigate credit risks, including restructuring of loans and addressing any potential defaults.
  • Client Communication: Act as the point of contact for clients regarding credit assessments, communicating decisions effectively and professionally.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on regulatory changes and ensure the company’s credit practices comply with local and international credit regulations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments (sales, collections, finance) to support the company’s credit management efforts and assist in collection strategies when necessary.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Educational Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 2-4 years of experience in credit analysis, loan portfolio management, or risk management, preferably in the banking, financial services, or lending sectors in Kenya.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial analysis tools, spreadsheets (Excel), and credit risk assessment software. Familiarity with industry-standard credit scoring models is a plus.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Ability to assess complex financial information and identify potential risks, trends, and opportunities.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial assessments and reporting.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to make sound credit decisions and recommendations under pressure.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory Frameworks: Familiarity with local regulations governing credit management, lending practices, and risk management in Kenya.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with other departments while managing your own tasks and responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications such as CFA or Credit Risk Certification (CRC) are a distinct advantage.
  • Experience with loan management systems and credit risk software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the Kenyan financial landscape and lending market dynamics.
