About The Programs – WMNC (Safe Water, Maternal health, New program development, Cost-effectiveness) Team
Evidence Action’s Safe Water Now program provides safe drinking water to over 10 million people across rural Uganda, Malawi, and Kenya. Recent evidence highlights that water treatment reduces all-cause child mortality by about 25%. Evidence Action’s designs deliver safe water at the source in rural settings through its established Dispensers for Safe Water (DSW) and newly launched In-Line Chlorination (ILC) interventions.
The Role
Community Service Assistant (CSA) position is primarily field based position which plays an important role as an interface between Dispensers for Safe Water and communities served with dispensers. This position ensures sufficient and uninterrupted supply of chlorine and service & hardware maintenance of the installed chlorine dispensers. This in turn enables the community to successfully access and use the dispensers throughout for improved community health.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform regular spot checks to ensure proper functioning of chlorine dispensers through hardware service and maintenance
- Install chlorine dispensers according to the Evidence Action’s guidelines and specifications whenever required
- Transport chlorine to various water points using motorcycles for dispenser delivery
- Safely handle and manage chlorine and dispenser stock, ensuring proper accountability at the store/office and at designated sites
- Keep accurate records by completing necessary forms and documents related to inventory management
- Engage with the local community to promote dispenser usage, address any challenges, and report issues to your supervisor
- Gather field data for program evaluation and accountability using smartphones
- Maintain the integrity and proper use of organizational assets assigned to you for work-related tasks
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum UACE (Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education) with a Certificate in communication, community work, social work, project management, or a related field
- Previous experience working with communities or social enterprises/NGOs is an advantage
- Valid Class A driving license and motorcycle riding skills/experience
- Fluency in English, Lugisu, and Luganda is required
