Westerwelle Startup Haus Arusha (WSHA) is a startup hub empowering local entrepreneurs and supporting the innovation ecosystem in Tanzania. The hub offers co-working space to its members, runs in-house incubation and acceleration programmes, and hosts regular events with stakeholders from the ecosystem. Headquartered in Berlin, the Westerwelle Foundation currently operates hubs in Rwanda, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Kenya. It runs support programmes focused on business ideation, proof of concept, and international acceleration. The Arusha hub provides a collaborative space for startups to develop and connect with other stakeholders.
Overview:
We are looking for a Community Assistant to support the implementation of community-building activities and ensure smooth day-to-day operations at our space. As the WSHA Community Assistant, you will work closely with the Community & Marketing Manager to create a vibrant, engaging, and well-organized environment for our members, partners, and visitors.
The Community Assistant plays a key role in welcoming guests, assisting members with daily needs, and maintaining the coworking space. You will support the onboarding of new members, manage communication on internal platforms, and help gather feedback to improve the overall community experience. This role also involves organizing and executing community events, coordinating logistics, and supporting coworking space sales by giving tours and responding to inquiries.
The Community Assistant is an active, on-the-ground presence within the space, helping to foster strong connections among members and ensuring the community remains engaged and supported. You will contribute to building a space that reflects the energy and values of WSHAs entrepreneurial ecosystem. The Community Assistant reports directly to the Community & Marketing Manager and collaborates with the Global Director of Community & Marketing.
Responsibilities
Community & Space
- Manages the reception and gives tours to prospective clients
- Supports with ad hoc member requests (Room booking, printing, etc.)
- Maintains good relations with all community members (co-working, programmes & partners)
- Ensures space is clean and orderly and takes care of small space improvements
- Supports with community inventory ordering (inform Finance & Operations to order supplies if/when needed)
- Supports with co-working contract management
- Onboards new members (Intro to space and other members to make everyone feel welcome)
- Ensures Nexudus is up to date with member details
- Community platform: Replies to all messages and posts on WSH channel
- Gathers feedback from members through satisfaction surveys
- Manages who has access to the space (registering and removing members from biometrics)
Coworking Sales
- Gives space tours to prospective clients
- Responds to incoming coworking and event inquiries via email, phone, and walk-ins
Events
- Supports with the organization of community events with support from Community & Marketing Manager
- Supports with organization of large programme events with support from Community & Marketing Manager escP0A8 CzLcif
- Coordinates event logistics (e.g. space preparations) with support from Community & Marketing Manager
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in customer service and client relationship management, with a strong focus on responsiveness and problem-solving.
- Proven ability to handle administrative duties with precision, efficiency, and strong organizational skills.
- Fluency in both English and Swahili is required; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
- Familiarity with coworking platforms (e.g., Nexudus) and digital communication tools is advantageous.

- Strong logistical and coordination skills, particularly in organizing events, handling scheduling, and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
