About SEMA

Established in 2018, SEMA is a not-for-profit enterprise called Stichting SEMA based in Uganda. SEMA empowers citizens to provide real-time feedback on their experiences with public services.

Job Summary

The Communication Officer is responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies to promote SEMA’s mission, vision, and impact. This role involves managing public relations, media relations, digital communications, and internal communications. The Communication Officer will work closely with the management team and other departments to ensure consistent messaging and brand identity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Public Relations:
      • Develop and implement public relations strategies to enhance SEMA’s reputation.
      • Build relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs, and community leaders.
      • Manage crisis communication and reputation management.
      • Maintain good relations  with stakeholders such as fellow civic actors, public & private partners.
  • Digital Communications:
      • Develop and manage SEMA’s website and social media platforms.
      • Produce high quality engaging content, including articles, blog posts, and videos.
      • Monitor online conversations and engage with the target audience.
      • Measure and analyze the performance of digital campaigns.
  • Internal Communications:
    • Develop and implement internal communication plans to foster employee engagement. Manage internal communication channels.
    • Create internal newsletters, employee communications, and staff events.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • 3 years of Experience in media relations and public relations.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing and social media platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Working Conditions

The Communication Officer at SEMA will primarily work in an office environment, making periodic visits to the field. This is a full-time job (40 hours/week), with occasional weekend activities (conferences, meetings.)

What We offer

This is a great opportunity for a young talented and driven professional with promising managerial experience. We offer a full-time contract for 12 months which may be renewed upon successful completion of targets. The probation period is 3 months. PAYE, NSSF and health insurance are covered, as well as 21 holidays and an annual training budget.

Remuneration is a combination of base salary and increments based on acquisition achievements. Please note we are a small, local social enterprise, and we offer salaries according to Ugandan local organization standards – we do not offer an international organization (UN) scale salary. We are looking for someone who is (willing to be) based in Kampala, Uganda.
