Position Summary

The Communication Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing Techforward Tanzania’s communication strategy to enhance the organization’s visibility and effectively convey its mission, programs, and impact to diverse audiences. The role involves managing both internal and external communications, overseeing the organization’s online presence, and ensuring consistent and engaging messaging.

Key Responsibilities

Communication Strategy Development:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with the organization’s goals.
  • Identify key messages and target audiences, and craft tailored communication plans for different stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication activities, adjusting strategies as needed.

Content Creation and Management:

  • Create and manage content for various platforms, including social media, website, newsletters, and press releases.
  • Write and edit articles, blog posts, reports, and other materials to highlight the organization’s work and impact.
  • Develop multimedia content, such as videos and infographics, to enhance audience engagement.

Media Relations:

  • Build and maintain relationships with local and international media outlets.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, and serve as the primary contact for media inquiries.
  • Organize press conferences, media briefings, and other events to increase media coverage of Techforward Tanzania’s activities.

Social Media Management:

  • Manage the organization’s social media accounts, including content planning, posting, and engagement.
  • Monitor social media trends and analyze metrics to optimize performance.
  • Engage with online audiences, responding to comments and messages in a timely manner.

Internal Communications:

  • Develop and implement internal communication strategies to keep staff informed and engaged.
  • Manage internal newsletters, bulletins, and other communication tools.
  • Support the organization in fostering a positive and collaborative work environment through effective communication.

Brand Management:

  • Ensure consistency in the use of branding across all communication materials and platforms.
  • Develop and enforce brand guidelines to maintain a strong and recognizable organizational identity.
  • Coordinate the design and production of promotional materials, including brochures, banners, and merchandise.

Event Management:

  • Support the planning and execution of events, such as workshops, conferences, and community outreach activities.
  • Develop communication materials and strategies to promote events and maximize participation.
  • Manage event-related media coverage and post-event communication.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with program teams to ensure effective communication with partners, donors, and beneficiaries.
  • Develop and maintain a database of key contacts and stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations for donors and partners.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an advantage.

Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in a communication role, preferably in the NGO sector.

Skills:

  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in digital media and content management systems (e.g., WordPress, social media platforms).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Creative thinking and the ability to develop engaging content.
  • Experience in media relations and event management.
