Key Purpose Statement

The Communications Manager will be mandated with :

  • Executing the External communication deliverables in the CCBA reputation strategy, which includes developing a media plan to profile CCBA’s thought leadership, generating positive media coverage and advocacy for the business.
  • Executing the Internal communication deliverables by owning and leading employee communication across the business and building relationships with key internal customers.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Act as an expert and internal consultant on both internal and external communication practices and trends by
  • Continuously researching and learning about the current thinking on internal and external communication
  • Introducing new communication practices, ideas and trends into the enterprise in line with the Group’s communication strategy.
  • Acting as an internal consultant on aspects of corporate communication and reputation management
  • Formulating and socialising plans and approaches that outlines the vision and solutions to improve communication throughout CCBA – KE.
  • Formulating budgets and managing and monitoring budgets assigned to internal and external communication projects

Create an enabling environment for the continuous management and improvement of communication in CCBA-KE by:

  • Executing the relevant internal and external communication frameworks for CCBA – KE.
  • Develop relevant stakeholder maps with internal business partners.
  • Develop key internal and external messages based on corporate narrative and support change management to drive culture.
  • Manage strategy, content and execution of major announcements, launches and events (both internal and external).
  • Developing and distributing handbooks, job-aids, and work procedures
  • Collaborate with and guide relevant agencies to ensure delivery of key outputs.
  • Create briefing documents for all external facing engagement

Execute communication channel strategy by:

  • Operationalise integrated, omni-channel communication plans.
  • Ensure monthly reporting on media monitoring targets and metrics and design remedial interventions where required
  • Plans and implements effective communication methods.
  • With the Group’s Communication Leads, develop a communication content plan based on channel interplay.
  • Develop and implement relevant and credible content which is contextualised per audience.

Ensure the implementation and deployment of communication practices and initiatives by:

  • Partnering with function leads to draft, edit and distribute company-wide communication
  • Clearly defining the required timing, audience and distribution methods of all internal communication is appropriate.
  • Using influencing skills to standardise communication solutions

Measure and track the impact of internal and external communication targets and metrics by:

  • Using and applying international, local and industry best practices that apply to internal and external communication in alignment with the Group office to determine reasonable metrics and targets.
  • Socialising, debating, and agreeing the target metrics for communication in CCBA -KE
  • Track and measure the outcomes and effectiveness relevant to different communication channels and campaigns.
  • Gather employee feedback and leverage data to drive continuous improvement of internal communication efforts.

Establish relationships with and engage relevant stakeholders by:

  • Identifying relevant media role players, platforms, PR agencies, media monitoring agencies, representatives of media publications, journalists, editors and other relevant role players
  • Contributing and collaborating when assigned to project teams and engaging with fellow project team members.
  • Become deeply embedded in the business and gain understanding of the business strategy.
  • Engage regularly with key stakeholders on internal communication issues.
  • Build relationships and networks across the organisation
  • Partner with key stakeholders to ensure message consistency in functions such as HR and Supply Chain.
  • Engaging in Communication workshops and meetings to share approaches, plans and roadmaps.
  • Meeting regularly with the Communication team members and his/her manager to report progress, raise issues and brainstorm solutions.

Act as a responsible corporate citizen and member of the PACS team by: 

  • Attending team meetings and workshops and contributing ideas and comments.
  • Preparing and delivering updates and reports as required by executive management and the business.
  • Performing required administrative requirements such as reports, time sheets, leave requests, performance progress feedback and general requests

Skills, Experience & Education

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirement: Degree in communication, journalism, public relations or related field.

Experience

  • 5 to 8 years experience in a corporate communication or agency environment with exposure to employee communications, publications, intranet, digital media, digital platforms and related areas.
  • Membership to a professional body.
