Commercial Officer

Job Summary

ICEA LION Life Assurance is recruiting a Commercial Officer, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. Overall, the job holder will support the CEO in the consistent delivery and follow through on strategic and business development initiatives, tracking of execution against strategy and management of key external and internal stakeholders. The commercial officer will offer a support role and not the main driver of execution of strategic initiatives.

Roles And Responsibilities

Strategy/Project Management:

  • Participate in the development of the company’s marketing plan and overall strategy
  • Support the CEO in setting up and tracking and reporting on the delivery of the strategic initiatives
  • Flag critical areas that require the attention of the CEO while monitoring the progress of milestone delivery within the critical path.

Business Performance Review:

  • Track the performance of the business against the objectives set out within the strategy, providing reports and recommendations to the CEO that require attention.
  • Provide creative solutions for validation by CEO to identify challenges and problems; and when called upon to represent the CEO in select review meetings.

Business Development Lead Support:

  • Support the CEO in business development lead scouting and managing the lead processes and offering recommendations following information/research analysis.
  • Identify business opportunities with existing and new channels.
  • Diarize all key dates in relation to New Business updates and follow up with all members of management team and circulate on a weekly basis
  • Provide continuous insights on business and industry performance, trends and innovations through research and analytics to influence and support key business decisions.

Board Engagement:

  • Development of key documents for the CEO relating to business strategy and performance, including Board communication and reports.
  • Liaise with the Company Secretariat to ensure there is timely delivery of quality Board papers to the CEO for review and subsequently circulated to the Board in line with the approved Board agenda.

Executive Committee and Senior Leadership Engagement:

  • Prepare material on behalf of the CEO for engaging with the senior leadership within the business.
  • Preparation of summary action points following meetings as well as proactively engage with various teams to ensure that agreed upon action items and objectives are executed.

Stakeholders Relations and Corporate Communications:

  • Pro-actively engage with various stakeholders and successfully communicate business financial and strategic objectives; and mapping and engaging with key stakeholders as well as liaising with the CEO and CFO to ensure that accurate information is communicated.
  • Representation of the CEO in select external engagements
  • Coordinate all corporate communications and thought leadership to staff and other stakeholders in line with the brand philosophy, and in liaison with marketing and communication department

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Commerce, Mathematics, Science or related discipline from a reputable university
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a fast-paced working environment with interactions with Senior leaders/executives
  • Experience coordinating strategy execution with function heads
  • Ability to manage and prioritize internal / external demands on CEO’s time
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Strong leadership and skills to foster teamwork with ability to provide direction, guidance and momentum in order to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Results-oriented, entrepreneurial in spirit and action, flexible, and innovative approach to operational management.
  • Detail oriented and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.

  • Knowledge of the insurance industry is an asset.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in the management of CEO’s diary and emails.
  • High proficiency with the commonly used computer software and applications
