Through these strategic partnerships, inABLE has achieved remarkable success in empowering African youth with disabilities to use technology as a tool for education, employment, and independence.

Job Objective

We seek a passionate and skilled Coding Trainer to deliver engaging and effective coding education to Grade 5-10 learners across our stations (Thika School for the Blind in Thika and Kang’aru digital hub in Kairi) in Kiambu County. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, and Scratch, with a proven ability to adapt teaching methods to learners of different age groups.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive coding curriculum from fourth grade to eleventh grade.
  • Create engaging and interactive coding lessons and activities that foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
  • Provide individualized support and guidance to students of varying skill levels and learning styles.
  • Utilize various teaching methods, including hands-on activities, interactive projects, and clear explanations, to ensure all students grasp the concepts.
  • Regular assessments should be conducted to monitor student progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly.
  • Collaborate with teachers and school administrators to integrate coding into the overall curriculum.
  • Stay updated on the latest coding trends, technologies, and best practices.
  • Travel to different locations within Kiambu County to conduct training sessions.

Qualifications

  • At least a Diploma in computer science, Information Technology, or any other related field.
  • Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Scratch, and a willingness to learn emerging programming languages.
  • Experience teaching coding to learners of different age groups.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to engage and motivate students of various learning styles.
  • Ability to adapt to different learning environments and work independently.
  • A passion for technology and education; and a commitment to fostering a love of learning in young minds.
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.

Qualifications and skills

  • Certification in web development
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Training skills
  • Excellent oral communication skills, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • IT skills and Coding skills.
  • Pedagogy skills are an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of the new Kenya curriculum CBC
  • Experience working with assistive technology for visually impaired individuals is an added advantage.
