The position
The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu (AKHK) is an Institution of the Aga Khan Health Service, Kenya, which is an Agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. The Hospital is part of a network of health facilities, which includes Hospitals and Outreach Health Facilities across East Africa. The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu is in an exciting growth phase and has attained acknowledgment of its quality by achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification, ISO 15189:2022 accreditation for laboratory services, Safe Care level 5 accreditation and is at advanced stage of attaining Joint Commission International Accreditation. AKHK has Outreach Health Services at Kisii, Kakamega, Kitale, Bungoma, Kericho, Kibuye-Kisumu, West End- Kisumu, Busia, Homa – Bay, Migori, Bomet, Eldoret, Kimilili and Nyamira. The Hospital seeks to recruit professionals for the following positions:
Clinical Officer – Aga Khan Medical Centre- Nyamira- Permanent
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
- Reporting to the Head of Outreach, Clinical Officer shall be responsible for the management of clinical services at the Aga Khan Medical Centre- Nyamira, examining, diagnosing and treating patients and referring them where appropriate to the specialists.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Taking history, examining, diagnosing, ordering laboratory and imaging investigations.
- Interpreting laboratory and imaging results.
- Treating patients’ common ailments at an Outpatient health facility.
- Implementing Community Healthcare activities in liaison with other health workers.
- Guiding and counselling patients, clients and staff on health issues
- Sensitizing patients and clients on preventive and promotive health
- Carrying out surgical procedures.
- Organizing health management teams and convening health management committee meetings
- Assessing, preparing and presenting medico-legal reports and referring patients and clients to appropriate health facilities.
The requirements
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution
- At least three (3) years relevant work experience.
- Current practicing Certificate.
- Membership registration to the relevant professional body.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Competency in emergency procedures e.g., BLS, ACLS, etc. will be an added advantage
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
